Dimeman's show report.......

Well, I went to one of the three annual Springfield Illinois shows today. I usually make all three every year if I possibly can. It's about a 50 table show with a good mix of dealers. Some dealers have new inventory every time and then a few seem to have the SAME stuff year after year. Anyway I got there at the opening bell (9:00) And proceeded to go up and down the isles looking for varieties mostly. It has been several years since I scored here and that was a 1945 DDO, which is still the only one graded. The first coin I bought was a 1919 Canadian dime PCGS58. I liked it so I bought it. Then low and behold I found a nice 1899/99-O (L102) Barber Dime PCGS45. It's not a variety in the PCGS Registry yet, but I am the Dimeman and hunt for all Dimes and all varieties. I go down a few more rows and wala another pick. This time a 1952-S/S RPM-2 PCGS67...a beautiful toned Roosevelt. This is also a non Registry variety. Then I went to a friend of mine's table who had called me before and said he had a nice 1917-D Mercury PCGS63 for me to look at. So I looked and liked it and bought it. It upgraded my 62, which will go into my variety showcase set. It is the 1917-D with obverse of 1916. I now have 5 of the 6 1917 Dimes. I still need the 1917-S with obverse of 1916. My last purchase was a 1917 Walker PCGS60. Nice pretty lite toned half.
So, it was a 5 coin show and I call that a good day for a small show.

There are differences in the feather detail around the head. Also, the texture of the 1916 is different than the 1917. The 1916 has a somewhat satin look.
There are blown up pics in the Mercury Dime book by David Lange.
