Probably the only time ever someone would be ecstatic to pull a William Andrews card.

Doesn't seem to bother Grote any. image

Sounds like a good chance to hit on a minty fresh Montana RC if you get the winning highest number card. I know of a few guys that like ripping those football packs. You know who you are.

In full disclosure, I don't collect unopened football so I say rip as much as you want, but stay the heck away from my baseball. image

How painful to be the one who pulls the Montana only to hand it to the guy who pulls the last card of the set. Interesting idea and I guess something fun and different for the participants.

Personally, I like the idea posted a while back about a set break with individual slots sold (the previous thread involved discussed breaking graded sets of 1986 Fleer basketball).

Assuming he's the last card in the set they may want to frisk all entrants to see if they are packing this card with them pre opening.

Yes, this fun contest could turn ugly if the box yields six William Andrews cards.

We used to do War all the time in the card shop I worked at, but it was the most valuable card according to Beckett that took home all the packs.

What was crazier was that the person with the lowest valued "high" card in the pack paid for every single pack. I blew my check every week playing that. We'd so it with 1986F Basketball. Fun times...

Anyway, I don't really get the highest number card in the set thing....seems pretty random. I've seen player who had most touchdowns, yards, etc...but never High #

    Regardless, sounds like a blast!

Actually, it would be better to make it truly random by
using a random number generator at the booth.

Generate a number and everyone look through their
cards to see if they have that number.

'Course if three people had that card, you would
have to go to plan B.

We used to call it pack poker. 4 people buy into for example a 36 pack box. Over the course of play 9 "hands" are dealt to each of the 4. The winner of each of the 9 hands is determined by the high card # or lowest card #(does not include the insert # if any). There are 9 hands(4 packs,1 to each player x 9) so more have a chance at a hit, rather then all packs opened at once. If there is a box insert, box topper etc. the winner of that item can be determined by who won the most hands, who had the most inserts, or highest overall card #. You can make your own modifications. Ante up!

I remember playing pack and box poker many times over the years. From $1/pack for '84 OPC hockey to $12/pack for '93 Finest to $200/pack for '86 Fleer. Everyone had different rules and I recall many strange ones. Regardless, it was always a fun time and there was always a buzz of excitement...
