<< <i>I thought eBay only allowed mentioning grades when certified by recognized companies? >>
"Perfect Uncirculated" is only thing mentioned and that is not on the Sheldon scale...the pic shows the grade. It's eBay legal but it's a JOKE none the less.
Erik
so what is your point? (i'm not asking sarcastically)
there are probably thousands, tens of thousands or maybe more available out there right now.
a distinction i tend to make is that just because a business has sold a lot, doesn't mean they are reputable. (not saying that is the case here)
just trying to figure out what you are aiming at. (if your point is that these stupid slabs with their stupid grades shouldn't be sold (exist), even in a buyer beware world, i concur)
<< <i>It's eBay legal but it's a JOKE none the less. >>
as much as i don't want to agree, i do. there is no numerical grade listed in the title. i would argue the images are not sufficient though.
.
With those coins, blurry stock pics, the Abon name and that feedback on Toolhaus of 62 negs/neutrals which says a lot when you read some of them...buying from this seller "should" not happen. Of course this sort of thing is a problem and should be resolved/reported etc... but, buyers should do some diligence. Self protection. As Lance would likely say, "...a simple search of "Abon" on Google..." - not rocket science. I make no comment about the seller - no need to. I am not saying "buyer beware" but "buyer take care" - and this sort of thing should bounce like a rubber bullet. Do you not Google everyone and everything before you respond to letters of inquiry or purchase or engage in some form of online interaction? IF I am spending my $, maybe $$$$$ (yeah, 5 figures), on some "awesome opportunity", you can be sure I'd know what I was doing, the risks/potential downsides, AND have an agent/second eyes. A recent thread blew my mind out.
Look before you leap with intent to keep or reap, for you might end in the heap or worse, buried deep.
I hope you like the little rhyme I composed
The auction states "Abon graded" and when you look to see it, one can see MS70 in that blurry pic. That is enough for me as it looks manipulative in it's presentation.
Eric
yup. how does that pertain to the item listed on ebay.
just trying to get a grasp on your line of thought. i seem to not be able to find it quite often, hence i have to ask.
.
…not that it wows me to shop there.

<< <i>Lance and Eric Abon was busted by a raid by the Feds and Secret Service that was my point to this listing issue. please see this post Text >>
Did you see that the only thing seized as stolen was a lawn mower, but "hearsay" is that Abon the the "place to go" to
sell stolen merchandise, so the police chief suggested the owners hire the sheriff
to screen items the sellers bring in. Worst of the small town "Cousin Andy-Cousin Barney" Bull shot.
My store had some trumped up BS from a small Texas PD. Had an undercover cop bring in some "presumed stolen" junk
jewelry (under $30) from the police property room, 2 minutes later uniformed cops arrested Fred Causey for "receiving
stolen goods" then gave a press report to the papers claiming they broke the "biggest gold fence in Texas" -- that our ultrasonic
jewelry cleaner was a "smelter" and the ventilation roof caps from the bathrooms were "smokestacks."

Hey John,
Yes, I know and I bet Lance does too. The raid is mentioned in the title of this thread. I post my response again - maybe I muddled it but I haven't changed it. The Google search I mention below will result in seeing...the police stuff which was already reported here in another thread about 1 or 2 days ago. It's the second or third thing to pop up in a search - esp under a "news" search. But my response was aimed at the general suggestion that people look into things, like sellers.
Have a great Sunday!
Eric

so i presume the reason for the post is because of the description:
ROLL PURCHASED FROM ABON ENTERPRISES -- DESCRIBED AS PERFECT COIN BY ABON GRADED:
i still don't quite grasp the title though vs the ebay listing. it is one thing to say selling coins from abon but it is another to say they are promoting them. a fine line maybe, hence my confusion.
also curious if the listing dates are after the abon raid date as it seems to be the thesis for the thread.

So what?
It's a free country.
The name is LEE!
MANSFIELD – The Secret Service conducted a search warrant the Abon Cards & Coins store, 115 Park Avenue West, with the help of other agencies to include the FBI, IRS and Mansfield police.
"The reason we conducted the search warrant is we have been engaged in a multi-jurisdictional wire fraud investigation involving the online Internet sale of a vast array of stolen merchandise," Smokey Everett, special agent in charge of the Cleveland field office for the Secret Service.
Now based on this above statement from the Secret Service if I were a seller of products from Abon I would have concern that those products could be stolen items and that I am now advertising items for sale that could be stolen and could have the potential to be part of the investigation that is being conducted. Does this make sense to those of you asking why I posted this?

That is funny thanks for the chuckle
<< <i>Ok I will do my best to explain. I sell coins on occasion on ebay and through other outlets. I advertise those coins to increase their viability in the market place. When I advertise those coins I list the grading company if the coin is so graded. Now lets say our host was having problems with law enforcement agencies of one type or another and was in negative news reports recently. This in my case would give me reason not to advertise the fact that I was selling items from our hosts based on those reports untill the issues were cleared up in a positive way. Now I know that Abon is a self slaber so I can not say the same for the seller in my post except I did offer a link to the news reports. For reference this is the start of the report:

Well.......what can I say other than perhaps you are mixing apples and oranges. Being in possession of an alleged stolen "lawn motor" has no bearing on the sale of self graded coins. Unless you're entertaining the thought that the seller was stealing those coins?
There was once a well respected authority on coins who also happened to be a convicted child molester that eventually died in prison.
Does this mean that folks should not buy the books he wrote or perhaps quote him as a source of information?
Now, since AbonCom has already been "tried and convicted" of being an over grading self slabber that had a reasonably successful eBay business until recently (some folks here would love to have 200,000+ feedback), I see no reason to drag their name through the mud over something which is nothing more than an "investigation". Nobody was arrested and until further reports are made regarding the guilt or innocents of the charges, why continue to wallow in the glory of a news story?
So what if the fellow is selling coins he bought from aboncom? I'm sure many would like to.
