My Pleasant Coin Shop Encounter

We've got two coin shops in town--one on the strip that does a brisk business in bullion and always has high prices and impatient service, the other an old B&M downtown run by a guy who looks like he's been there since Lewis & Clark came through. Anyway, went to the downtown one a couple days ago with my son. I've recently signed up to be a counselor for the Coin Collecting merit badge in my area, and I wanted to hold a class for Scouts interested in the badge. My idea was to get nickel rolls for each scout and some old blue books so they could start filling some holes. I asked the old timer if he had any old used nickel holders he could sell me cheap. He looked through all of his empties and didn't have a one, but I did pick out a few others.
"How much?" I asked him.
"No charge."
I kept looking through the shop with my son, and meanwhile the guy looked through some of his FULL nickel holders. He picked out all the War nickels, then gave me the rest of the folder--full of nickels! Again, no charge.
I did end up buying a Mercury dime, but I left the shop thinking, "How cool is that!" The guy really just wanted to encourage young people to take an interest in the hobby--and, BTW, this is not the first kindness he's done for me, even though I rarely buy very much.
Wonderful example and inspiration in so many ways.

I knew it would happen.

I think he's only open 10-4 M-F, but if you're passing through on your way to Glacier National Park...

That was a very nice gesture, and I agree. It may not mean much to the dealer, I'll never know, but at the local B&M I went to every Saturday (pretty much) years ago, when I had some money to spend, I'd spend something... just depended on my budget at the time. If nothing in particular caught my eye, I'd at least buy an ounce or two of silver, or some random common Au-BU Morgan, or AU Walkers or silver Washingtons, or some supplies. Just seemed the quid pro quo thing to do.
