OPC Puckett's - Advice on Resub

So I cracked 47 boxes of 85 OPC and these are my three best Kirby's. Have a few more that are close but these were the first three to go in to PSA.

Of the three, which is the best crack and sub candidate?

47 boxes and no 10!?! Holy sh$t. I'd say no 2 btw, and that's based on he right border appearing to be hidden?

Could be my eyes playing tricks, but something doesn't look right with the centering on the 3rd one (right most of the three) so I'd skip that one.

#3 appears to have a "tilt". #1 MIGHT be off just a hair T/B. But it's hard to recommend any without being able to get a REALLY good look at the surface.

    I would say resub 1 and 2.

But the question I have is this: you cracked $4k worth of wax and you're looking for advice on what to spend a $7 submission fee on? Just resub them all, it's a drop in the bucket compared to the product you just blew through.

Paid 25 bucks a box so not even close to 4K. Also cracked around 20 or so 91 OPC boxes at 9 bucks a pop, 4 86 OPC at 9 bucks and a few 84s at 50 a piece.

Not worried about the submission fee's, just more curious on what people thought.

    I agree on 1 and 2.

You may have only paid $25, but I believe those boxes usually sell for around $80-$100 each (could be wrong here, but that's my recollection), in which case it's still over four dimes in product.

I thought about flipping them but the boxes were in poor shape and the effort to sell box by box would not justify the return on time invested. I could have sold them to BBCE but his buy price is $35 a box, shipping from Canada would have put me in the hole.

So sure, at retail prices I ripped 4K in product but I didn't pay that or anything close to it, and and selling them would have netted much less than 4K.

Either way, I'm not sure how much I spent on wax has anything to do with the question I asked. I see guys all the time plowing through high dollar wax and then asking what they think the cards would grade.
  • #2 is a 10 although the others are technically within spec. A tilt is allowed on an OPC 10.
47 boxes and no 10 is typical for OPC.
I've cracked that many at least of 80's hockey and finally got a 10 on my last submission - a 1987 Craig Simpson rookie.
I still have some to submit so hopefully I get a few more.

I wasn't trying to take a shot at you, I just thought it was strange that you were asking for advice on which cards to drop a resub fee on given how much you had in the product. You got a great buy at $25/box, even if they were in rough shape.

No worries, was just bored and started a thread. Was curious if the board thought any of them had a chance, if not they go in my big pile of cards I have no idea what to do with.

Was no reason to, I'm not a dealer and I bought the boxes to crack.

Getting back on track, I found that Ryan was the toughest card, I don't think I have one that would pull a 9.

Good rip. Must have taken forever!!!

I would send in all 3 for a review with nothing else.... will almost force them to bump one of them.

Mike - the rip took forever, it felt like work at the end.

Here are some Gooden, after going through them I'm not sure any will pull a ten:
