Gem? I think it has a great shot!

1981 Harold Baines OPC rookie card. This is NOT the Gray back version which is a pop 1 and there is something fishy on that gray back!
This card is a pop 7 in PSA 9 with no 10's. For those that are familiar with O-Pee-Chee, know how difficult centering is and with 1981's in particular.
I think this will be the first PSA 10...

I hope it is..I can't see anything to keep it out of a 10 holder. Centering looks great and no print defects that I can see. If I saw that for sale in a Gem 10 holder, I'd snatch it in a heartbeat. Good luck with the sub.

Is the dot to the lower right of his nose on the card?

I guess that goes for the one on the collar too as the 8 has it. I'd like to see a PSA 10 to see if the dots are there or not.

The corners on this card are FANTASTIC. 10x loope shows perfect corners

Tom ... I was going to bring up the small print dot on the left border at the same height as the bottom of his hair. HOWEVER, that one is also on the "10".

Beautiful looking card ... best of luck with your submission.

Knowing OPC baseball grading, I think it has as decent a shot as any at getting a 10. If it were mine and it came back a 9, I'd resub at least once. The scan makes it look to me like there was a hint of a small touch on the lower right corner but you confirmed with your later post that under the 10x loupe that the corners are sharp so I'll trust that over my eyes here. My bet is that if it were sent to BGS, it would get a 9.5 Gem Mint and not a 10 Pristine. Not really relevant, because I don't really use BGS and I'm pretty sure you don't either. I have no trouble seeing that in a PSA 10 holder in my opinion.

The centering looks a little off side to side at the top of the card - still in 10 spec but my experience is that they come back as a 9.
Good luck with the sub and let us know how it turns out.

Looks like a bit of a diamond cut (notice top left and right borders) so probably why came back a 9 all those times but still within 10 tolerances I'd say.

    Congrats on the pop!

Congrats on the 10, Tom! Card looks really sharp.

This also illustrates how fine a difference there is between a high end 9 and a 10--that is with the exception of monetary value, of course, lol..

    +1

I normally give up after 2 tries. I can see why you'd keep after this one because if any card deserves a 10 it was this one. image
