Any ideas why Buehrle won't sign perfect game ticket?

On the five year anniversary of Buehrle's perfect game I took my 4-year old daughter to her first Sox game and was pleased to make it into the 6th before antsiness took over and we had to leave Before we departed I got into a conversation about the perfect game with the crusty season ticket holder in row 20 who was at the game 5 years ago. He told me he knows bullpen catcher Mark Salas (am I the only one with 300 of his 1985 Topps Traded card somewhere?) and asked him if he'd have Buehrle sign his ticket. The response he got was that Buehrle won't sign anything related to the perfect game because of some Hall of Fame thing. He couldn't really expand on it but that he simply wouldn't. They have Buehrle's glove and cleats from the event in Cooperstown and for the life of me I can't figure what would be the deal about signing a ticket stub.

And Buehrle's rep as a good dude to fans is beyond reproach so it's not a DBag thing. Any thoughts?

We also couldn't come up with the catcher who caught the game but we both knew it wasn't AJ. An O/C 1982 Topps Mike Parrott and PSA 5 1984 Fleer Update Bruce Bochte to the person who can tell me without internet help.

  • I do not know for sure, but possibly he has signed an exclusive with a company
I know, for example, Duke Snider could not sign bats because of that, although he did.

    Was the catcher Ramon Castro?

I think Cocoa Beach Dodgers nailed it. He likely has some kind of endorsement deal or something related to the perfect game. That doesn't mean that you might not be able to talk him into it at some personal signing event.

DeWayne Wise should be in the HOF for that catch alone.

You are correct. A quick check on the Chic. Trib. newspaper website confirms this with a picture showing Buehrle/Castro in a congratulatory pose. A.J. rested that day.

CocoaBeach - I would never have guessed Ramon Castro and was fairly certain you were wrong. I have been disespoused of that notion.

Sorry for the delay. PM your address and I will mail your prize.

  • The only reason I had any clue that it was Castro was last year he signed with the Dodgers. At that time I remember looking at his stats & bio online & saw he caught a perfect game.
Just guessing that because both were with the Sox, it could have been him.
