Is there collector trading at the National?

Hello all - of course the dealers at the National will have great stuff to purchase, but I was wondering if the attendees did any old fashioned trading on the side?

The last National I attended was way back in Atlanta, but I remember having a great time with other collectors trading cards, and I was hoping this was still the case.

Yes. It works much like pin trading, but you can carry far fewer of them around on you.

In all seriousness, I'm sure there is plenty, and much of it takes place between people who have connected at some of the social gatherings (PSA luncheon, Net54 dinner, etc.).

A few years' ago in Chicago, someone approached me after I entered the hall asking if I had any of the missing Topps promo cards he needed to complete his set. I don't remember what card he needed, but I took a Nolan Ryan promo from the previous National he offered for the one he needed. The promos are cool and they seem to get better every year, but I am not really a serious collector of that stuff, so I was fine helping out a fellow collector.

I haven't seen a dedicated trading area, but there is definitely trading going on. From pre-arranged deals, to trading VIP auto tickets, it does happen. My advise would be to post a list of what you have to trade, and maybe get some interest going beforehand.

Glad to hear about the trading. Sometimes that is just as fun as the buying image.
