I love these type of notes. Cheap thrills!

Though the number of coins pictured on the reverse doesn't exactly make sense with the denomination.

Thanks for looking and feel free to post your notes with coins pictured!

Cool. Don't think I've ever seen currency depicting coins. I'll have to flip through my notes when I get home. Another mini adventure! image

Very cool!!! I think the reverse of the note depicts all the denominations of coins in that era? The 5 cent coin (nickel) is shown among all the other denominations. The nickel is pictured in the upper center of the picture. I think anyway?image

Well definitely not all of them..

and how can an 1862 note have a nickel on it when the first nickel was made in 1866?

Note that the top coin is denominated "TEN DOL" but with a typical silver seated liberty reverse eagle. The coin located upper left looks to be one of those so-called "Model" tokens listed in Kagin. Not sure what the "5" coin is. I first thought Swiss, but the wreath is different.

Excellent points, Aegis!!!!! Had not thought to look for authenticity in the designs. Just assumed they were actual coins. Hopefully some forumites who are more knowledgeable than I about our US coins will chime in. I fear they are not even looking at this thread due to the currency factor, which if true is really a sad shame.

I wonder if there is some law which forbids the currency design to include real coins? and therefore they had to use fake coins or make slight alterations to the actual real-life designs? image
