Opinion on this bust half please

PCGS XF45. Not as deeply toned as some of the others I have posted. Has a pretty big scratch on the cheek, which is my concern but it has one heck of a nice strike, so maybe I can look past it. Am I being too critical for a coin in this grade for the series? It is blown up pretty big.

I have seen worse slabbed but I try to find them without the distraction.
Since you have mentioned it here I don't think you will overlook it forever.

nice looking coin but the scratch will never go away, so if it bugs you now it probably always will.

Very true and wise statement. I guess the same could be said for spots and ugly toning.

I think you are being too critical...it would be ridiculous to Genuine that coin (assuming the reverse is as nice as the obv)

The scratch isn't going to go away so keep looking for a better one.

Reverse is free from any distracting marks and has similar appearance as the obverse.

    a very nice looking bustie.

nice for the grade. very rough not getting to see both sides tho.

too bad about that scratch as it is in literally the worst area it could possibly be. that being said, i'd still buy it but not at a premium. i'd call it noticeable, not necessarily big but does have some depth.

probably difficult to see the scratch just looking at it in-hand with our eyes.

it is in a good holder with a good grade, so you have that to fall back on, plus the nice gun-metal look.

There are so many of these 20's dates in XF to choose from (I've had several 1826's with hammered strikes it seems)..... keep looking !

    ... But it's in a PCGS holder ... doesn't that trump all?

Here is what I would ask myself .. Would I buy that coin if it were raw?

Whatever your answer is to that question should be the same answer to this question

Yeah, look for one in MS70, so it won't have any defects at all. image

I think it has very nice surfaces. Much better than average for an XF. That little scratch at the cheekbone wouldn't bother me a bit.

It's hard to judge the toning from the images, but there is nothing wrong with dirty gray. Great strike too. Look at the clasp, locks, banner, talons.

You could do a lot worse.

it is okay. I do think a better example could be found. The image is not helping the cause... at least on my monitor.

Nice strike, and the defect is minor.
The surfaces look a bit dull and don't seem to have much in the way of 'skin', making the eye appeal just so-so,
but it certainly is not a bad coin.
