PMG had graded a 1987 $1 Disney Dollar Proof as a 64EPQ Choice Unc as a Remainder. The owner of the note contacted Disney Collectors Club with questions. Disney Collectors Club contacted PMG, who were very courteous and prompt in returning answers to our phone calls.. Thank you
PMG definition for a Remainder;
"We classify a Remainder as a note without signatures, serial numbers, or date on it. It will be missing one or all of the above to be classified as a remainder. A proof is a prototype of a note that is printed by the printing company before it is issued.~ PMG"
After discussing the matter with Les of PCGS Currency and Bruce of PMG Services, PMG agreed the label even though was technically correct, was not entirely correct in the Disney Dollar collectors world. Why not you ask ?
PMG Remainder note definition :
A note without signatures
A note without serial numbers
A note without a date on it
A note missing ONE or ALL of the above
True, but Disney Proof Dollars are printed purposely for distribution and circulation into the Disney Theme Parks. Disney Proof Dollars are purposely released ahead of the actual release day for that series.Disney Proof Dollars hold a denominational value in the Disney theme Parks and are not obsolete.
Obsolete Remainder notes do have one or more of the definition but were never issued and have no currency value and therefore obsolete.
