1956 Topps - starting a set - SCAN HEAVY

Hi Guys - just felt like posting so i scanned some raw cards i picked up for a 1956 Topps set... I planned to do this set in PSA 6-8 but combed through a few tables at a show and store recently and picked these up for the centering... Not sure how it will turnout, but liked them none the less...

Nicely centered. Good luck putting your set together!
  • One of my favorites I'm working on a set also. Those look like solid ex+ to ex/mt depending on corner wear.
  • thanks... here are some more

The Luis is a big card - i took a chance going raw but liked the centering and got a fair price...

Aparicio's are tough to find centered. I still haven't found one to my liking image Nice pickup!

great cards - you planning to sub them or just go with a raw set? based on what my 6s look like, i would think yours should grade that or better so definitely some nice cards

i started trying to do a raw set but quickly jumped into PSA 6, which led to PSA 7 - and I was able to stop it there, 8s were just way beyond what i was willing to spend

anyway, i'm under 30 cards to go now but it has slowed up considerably

    good luck in the build!
  • thanks guys
Yeah when i saw that Luis i figured it was worth grabbing, was nice to be able to see it at a show to pull trigger.

I've really been trying to keep it to 6.5's and 7's on the slabs i pickup... with focus on centering, eBay prices are almost double for the centered 6-7's i've seen which drives me up the wall, though a centered 6 or 7 in this set can put some 8's to shame.

i'd like to do the Yankees in 8 and maybe some other star cards as they come up but for now enjoying the centered 6-7 hunt...

good luck with your sets fellas!

You can pick up nice PSA-6-7's at a very reasonable price.
  • Like the set going to work on once I complete the 1955 topps. Good luck

Sweet! Aparicio has the happiest catch on a baseball card! On another note...Brooks Lawrence is a great read on baseball Reference

I think most are EX-MT with very nice eye appeal. Keep up the nice work. Cool scans.

All your money won't another minute buy.
  • Thanks guys
I'm thinking that I'll finish set as best I can between raw and graded. And at end do a sub to grade the raws just to make it a nice uniform collection. I won't really look for raw on eBay but if I can find raw at the 6 + level at shows that's jus as good.
At 400 or so cards with variations it's a great set to chase once I get some to the remaining stars out of way.
Would live to see what others have and building progress.
    cheers
    Mark
  • just scanned a few of my yanks/dodgers

i picked this mathews up on ebay recently - just loved the centering - there is a decent dent in the top edge but in hand unless the light hits it right, you don't really notice.

    + 1

You have a keen eye, sir-- and a very awesome screen name I must say, as well. Nothing like a uniformly centered set; hits the eye fantastically and when people are viewing and admiring that many cards all with the same layout, the eye tends to not scour each corner-- the centering creates the pleasing sense to the eye. Great job!

Nice cards!! Definitely my favorite set of the 50s.
  • That Cerv is nice it's not often centered well. You got a good one.
