anyone know anything about 1917 Boston Store cards?

I have a Tris Speaker, graded by SGC. Any ideas on value/rarity? All I can find on VCP is one from 2008 for $1535. There is one sold in 2009 for $39, but none of the cards pictured is Tris Speaker, so I'm thinking it was some kind of listing error . Any info would be appreciated

They're uncommon, but not terribly rare (in relation to other century old sets). They are exceeding tough, however, in high grade due to the thin paper stock. I'd say $400-600 for the Speaker in that grade unless he's a SP that I'm not aware of. I sold an Evers for ~$300 a while back so 400-600 seems about right in that condition for Speaker. I remember when I first got into Pre-War cards about a decade ago and I read about the Boston Garter issues and how tough they were. A short time later I saw the Boston Store Evers on eBay and thought I made the steal of a lifetime. Nice set however, and I've always been partial to the back advertisement.
  • I have owned several. $300 IMO. Speaker is not a big card in the set. I would pay handsomely for a Ruth.
