2 Questions: Is the 71-72 Ken Dryden Rookie trimmed? Is this 93 Topps Jeter centered well enough to

I don't do hockey, but I picked up this Dryden rookie. It seems about 1/16 of an inch short side to side but does not look wavy, and I see no reason anyone would trim this card. I compared it to a modern card since I don't have any hockey from the same time period. Is this common with this issue?

Do you think this 93 Topps Gold Jeter is centered well enough to have a chance at a 10? It has one very slight blemish on the bottom left corner that is hard to see without a loupe.

I picked up a Dryden RC (Topps) in a collection and it was short R/L. There were others in the collection which were oversized, and all exhibited a very smooth cut edges, leading me to believe they were sheet cut. Other than that, they were blazers.

Dryden looks fine to me, it's a Topps card so clean edges is not a red flag. There isn't a lot of white border on those 71s and that one looks good to my eye.

Left edge looks iffy to me.

Not sure about trimming on the Dryden, if it were mine I'd compare it to others from the same set but you don't have any so that's out. But in all honesty, between the crease and the large spot of paper loss on back, I don't think it really makes any difference whether the card is trimmed anymore.

Kind of my thoughts of WTF would you trim this card. I was thinking I might submit it to BCCG mainly to authenticate and show its not tampered with, they seem to bring a little more money that way. I just wanted to see if any of the hockey pros here could let me know if the size discrepancy was common with that issue so I don't waste the time and money to have it rejected.
  • If you are planning to sell it, just do it raw. You'd get more money than having it in a PSA AUTH, PSA 1, or BCCG (who wants these??) slab, in my experience.

If it were in one of those slabs it would reduce the chances of someone complaining that is it trimmed and returning it or just leaving a negative.

I don't want to be harsh, so please do not take offense. The Dryden card looks to have a crease and the paper loss, so it really isn't worth grading in my opinion.

The Jeter card's centering SHOULD be good enough to grade a 10, but I think it will get a 9 at best.

    Sorry.

That's true. And, to be clear, grading it is a reasonable thing to do. I just wouldn't because the risk of a return/neg is pretty low and the ROI with grading is most likely negative. Just my advice. Would make a good card for signing if Mr Dryden wasn't so tough!

The Dryden isn't trimmed, but the Jeter will get a 9 because it's a popular rookie with a fairly high pop in gem condition.

1971 Topps Hockey cards from vending can be hugely undersized and oversized in both directions.
