Gibraltar trade center shows - metro detroit

Anybody go to these recently, either in Taylor or mt. Clemens? Are they worth going to? I'm looking for unopened 80s baseball and football, psa and some of the more oddball tigers cards and sets like cains, wendys, Burger King, etc.

I have not been in probably 4-5 years and it was mostly modern stuff, sprinkled in with some older stuff (mainly singles, not boxes). I am not sure how they are today though. It seems like the shows were getting smaller over time.
  • I recently went. There is a write-up in my pick-ups thread. Mostly hockey focused, so may not be fully relevant. I enjoyed it, overall.

Last time I went there, I found tons and tons of unopened '80's. However, that was actually during the 1980's and I haven't been there since image

I hate to say this but that show at least the last one in Mt. Clemens was terrible. It is definitely going down hill. I only go maybe once or twice a year. I am hopeful that this last one in Mt. Clemens was because its summer time and generally the show is smaller. There are only 2 dealers whom usually deal with wax in general. One of them does have some 80's unopened there, but not that much. I have purchased it from him in the past and its all clean, at least the stuff that I picked up. I also heard that the Taylor site it closing down soon, if not already. So that will mean just one show a month for Mt. Clemens. Also I have heard that they do not have signers anymore at the show, which is probably why its getting smaller and smaller. If you go, good luck and let us know how you did.
  • I went this weekend in Taylor and it was very dry. I only go to see Danny Phillips who is a vintage dealer from Columbus Ohio, he has good stuff and is usually there. I can't speak for 80s Wax boxes, but there were a few dealers for it that I have seen in the past. It really depends what you are looking for if you go, if you like vintage there a few guys that are always there and have decent stuff, look for a guy named Harold. He is very reasonable on prices. If you live in the Royal Oak area, the Elks has a card show every Wednesday but its hit and miss.

I was also at this show last weekend and its sad to say that it will be closing down in dec I was told ...as far as wax goes there isn't much as I have been going to this show for many years and mount Clemens is a long drive from taylor ...many of the big name dealers are trying to find a local venue to do that can be done and be big like this show was...so for now the next best thing for us is the show in redford once a month on sundays and also like lee said there is the royal oak elks which is hit and miss and runs every Wednesday ...

I miss the old Plymouth show, believe it was twice a year. They moved it to Dearborn and it was not the same. Don't think it lasted too long after they moved it.
