Hostess panels

Regarding 76 and 79, are these preferred in panels or singles from a grading/selling point of view?

Thanks,

David (LD_Ferg)

BOTH singles and panels are graded by PSA. The master sets would probably have both versions included.

Singles probably more common and easier to sell (at least the star players) panels are going to be harder to find and MUCH harder to find in high grade. Panels would seem to have a higher value if there's a star or two on them.

Regardless of what fype of panel, I like to keep mine intact. The only time I'll cut one is if a portion of it's damaged.

Are these considered "supersize" if uncut?

    Thanks,

    Measure them. Here's the breakdown:

    Standard - 2 11/16" x 3 13/16"
    Tall Boy - 3 1/2" x 5 1/ 6"
    Supersized (Ticket) - 3 5/8" x 7 1/2"
    Supersized (Check) - 4 1/4" x 10"
    T-3 Holder - 5 3/4" x 8"

Checking to see if anyone knows the story of the 79 Carew (large/small head). It looks like the small head is the scarcer of the two.

I picked up a 76 and 79 set a few weeks ago. I tested the waters cutting panels that had some damage to them. Here's a sampling of the grades. I don't recall the PDs on the front. I may have missed something or the PD could be on the reverse. I'll check them out once they arrive.

    Very nice job David!

I remember the forum having a discussion about possible "laser" cutting of these things...

and someone brought up a serial numbered Manning that was trimmed and got a higher grade - the before and after was relatively obvious.

Good luck if you decide to sell them.

Thanks guys. I just realized the Horner was his rookie. Murphy/Horner were the pre-bash brothers to McGwire/Canseco back in the day. During this time (early 80s), I could not wait to watch TBS and WGN after a day of swimming at the local city pool. Then some MTV and Solid Gold Dancers on Friday nights after the skating rink. haha. Quick trip down memory lane.

    Thanks,

I enjoyed when ESPN would play highlights from the Swallows games of "Homer Horner" in '87.

Those are some great grades, especially for hand cut.
