All-Star Fanfest

I know there are a few other collectors from MN on the boards, is anyone going the All-Star fanfest at the convention center this weekend? For anyone that has gone to previous All-Star game fanfests is there a decent card show to go with it?

I would say probably not since setting up for this type of show is quite high its mainly modern cards and merchandise geared to the general public mainly.

I went to the NFL Experience and NBA Jam Session in successive years here in New Orleans. Prepare to be underwhelmed by the "card show" - BUT - the card companies usually do neat event only cards. Rack up on those - you can usually flip them for more than it costs to get them, especially the big names.

Also, autographs abound - so find a list and be prepared with cards and whatnot.

From Jam Session last year, I got 5 or 6 autographs - including Horace Grant, Ron Harper and Bradley Beal.

From the NFL Experience, I also got 5 or 6 autographs - Ahmad Bradshaw, Rueben Randle, Mean Joe Greene - oh and JIM FREAKING BROWN!

My last All Star Fan Fest was 1998 in Colorado, so I don't feel qualified to advise if it is better or worse now. I do remember that cards/memorabilia area being great then, and I came away with autographs of Enos Slaughter, Steve Garvey, Orlando Cepeda and a few others.

I'd go, if I were you.

Only an idiot would have a message board signature.
  • I went today and unless you are 12 years old it is a complete waste of time. Lots to do for kids, little to do or see if you are not. Only a couple of card vendors selling cards you probably don't want. Topps has a small both selling this years boxes or sets. Free autographs are mostly former Twins and Fergie Jenkins has a both with his usual line up of people.

The Hall of Fame display and the Hunt Auction display are interesting if you like vintage memorabilia.
