Every vacation should include a stop to BBCE and to random baseball card shops....

Hey Everyone,
My wife and I just completed an approximately 2,400 mile road trip starting in Iowa and going as far east as the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY and included stops at Niagara Falls, an island hopping tour in Ohio, and some other random stops along the way. We had a great time and it was awesome to get away from work for a while....but not to bore you with any more details about the trip, I thought I'd include some of the baseball card themed things we did on the trip. We left from Dubuque, IA last saturday, and our first stop was Schererville, IN where we stopped at the Baseball Card Exchange. I was eyeing a few 56 topps cards for my set (I'm now 20% complete!!), got a few of my rack packs put in his rack pack holders, picked up a few junk boxes for opening along the way, and picked up an 1980 topps box for my dad. Pictures are below:
I have to say on the Roy Siever card, that would have been one heck of a catch if he would have made it!! Got to talk to Steve for a few minutes and it was nice to visit with him a bit on the upcoming National, and how business has been going for him.
The next stop was the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ever since I was little, I've wanted to go here, and it was my first visit. I had wanted to go when Ryne Sandberg got inducted, but it just didnt work out. I included a few pictures of some of my favorite things, including the guest book that was signed when the hall opened including Cy Young and Ruth signatures. It was well worth the trip!!!
And of course, the famous Wagner card!
I think the highlight of the baseball card side of things was our trip to Erie, PA. We had really nothing planned for that particular day, so my wife, Wendy, looked up some of the baseball card shops in Erie, and we stopped at two. The first shop that we stopped at had an empty 1977 topps wax case on display, and I asked the guy if he would be interested in selling it. He was like, yeah, everything is for sale, but not sure if I want to sell that. So I asked him where he got it, and he said, a guy had brought in a bunch of stuff to sell many years ago, and as part of the lot it included ONE full 1977 wax box, and a bunch of other items (most had been sold). I asked him if he still had the full box, and he said, I've been selling it by the pack. Unfortunately, he only had four packs left, but I was able to get the empty case, the four packs, and the box for $120. I was very happy with that!!! Pictures are below...
The next stop was at a baseball card shop called Kinem's Sports Cards. I had a great time visiting with Mike, the owner. We have similar interests in what we collect, so my wife and I spent an hour or so visiting with him. I'd definitely suggest that you stop in for a visit if you are in the Erie, PA area. He has a great selection of modern wax, and a lot of great raw vintage cards. I believe they even have a show once every couple of months. He was a great guy to talk cards with!
Of course, its back to reality on Tuesday when I go back to work, but it was just a great trip, and I just wanted to share some of the baseball card items with all of you since well, there is noone here in Dubuque to share it with besides my Dad! Hope you all had a great fourth of July and enjoyed reading this and seeing the pics!

<< <i>What I got out of this is that you, like me, are lucky to have a wife who is supportive, or at least tolerant, of your collecting. Congrats! >>
Thanks! She is very supportive of my collecting. I'm very lucky!

<< <i>BTW, that is an awesome price for that 77 lot!! >>
I know...I only wish he had more packs. Oh well, I'm glad I got the four to add to the collection. I love having the empty case to display in my card room!! My dad was super happy with the 80 box. It looks case fresh. I joked that we should take more cross country trips and stop at random card shops
Imagine what that guest book would sell for on the open market.
That 1977 empty case is cool. I could totally imagine having various empty cases stacked up in the corner of one's man cave. One of the reasons I collect unopened material is that it's interesting to see how packaging changed throughout the history of the hobby be it packs, boxes, or cases. That's why my unopened Topps football wax/foil box run extends from the 1970's to now.
Glad you had a great vacation.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
