What should I do with these 1955 Bowmans? HERE ARE SOME SCANS

A couple of years ago, I bought a large collection of 50s baseball cards. In addition to other years, there were 1250 1955 Bowmans (all very nice). After selling the HOFers and mid-grade commons, all I have left are about 375 of the best condition commons (plus a few high numbers, umpires, and minor HOFers) that I pulled out. I even tried to cull out those that appeared to be cut short, which seems to be a problem with this year.

They are very nice, and I want to sell them. I think most would grade 6, 7, or 8 by PSA. A lot of them look like an 8 to me, but I know how that goes. The problem is, I'm not sure I have the expertise to tell the difference. Should I: a) pick a hundred or more of the best and send them in for grading (a lot of money); b) list them all raw on eBay myself; c) send them to Greg Morris (I emailed him a month or two ago, and he wasn't really interested; d) find a eBay or other seller who would review them and send the best ones in for grading for me (who would go to the trouble of doing that?) and then sell them all on consignment to that seller; or e) any other suggestions?

I would think they would have good value. I would probably send them off to PWCC, and let him sell them raw.

Bobby, I like the PWCC idea, but I know that Brent usually doesn't sell single ungraded cards unless they have a minimum auction value of $50, and then takes $10 plus 10% for $50-100 sales. But, for a large group of these in high grade, he might give a discount. It won't hurt for me to ask. I would love for him to sell them for me, provided his commission is reasonable.

    Other thoughts?

Not individually, but sell as one complete lot of high grade commons.

Another option would be to have a smaller number graded, sell them to finance the grading fees on the remainder if that goes well (book value on commons in PSA 8 are $55 and $80 for high numbers).

In looking over sold items on ebay these cards sell for quite a bit more than the grading fees, selling raw might work, but many collectors put PSA in their searches.

Really looks to me like a win-win situation.

I would sell them myself if I were you!

+1...PSA is notoriously tough on those 55's. They can grade them one minute and then say MIN SIZE REQUIREMENT the next.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I think I may hand pick a few for grading and see how they do. And, I'm thinking about listing them myself, although that requires a lot of effort. Thanks again to everyone.

It's hard to justify the $7 submission fee to see if I get 6's or 7s or maybe, but not likely, 8s for 1955 Bowman commons.

Why not scan a few of the better ones here for opinions?

    Scans would be helpful!

Now that I've scanned a few, I can better see the slight flaws in each one. Not sending any of these in for grading!!!

When I was in 3rd grade (around 1974) in a strict Lutheran grade school, a classmate gave me a large shopping bag of cards her grandfather had and the majority of them was the 1955 Bowman and I fell in love with them instantly. I was in love with them so much that I was looking at them in my desk during class time and got them taken away from me, never to be seen again. To this day that bothers me because one of my dreams since the day I laid eyes on these television cards has been to put this set together in any condition I could afford.

I wish I could afford to but some of these from you and this is the condition I would have loved to go after. Good luck with your sales.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
