1994 sp #15 Alex Rodriguez PSA 10

I use to own this card but let it go in 8/16/11 for $3,000:

For some reason I wanted to check VCP to see what they are going for now and I notice that the only other recorded sale is form SCP featuring Dmitri Young and it went for almost 1k more. No big deal but the odd thing is the serial numbers are in sequence.

What are the odds that Dmitri submitted his card right before mine and received the exact rare same 10 grade?

I think the one you bought and the one Dmitri bought were subbed by the same person years ago, hence the sequential numbers.
Later, Dmitri got a personalized flip made

You may be right but the odd's of getting a 10 are 0.002793881399735% so what are the odd of two 10's in a row? Winning the power ball?

hammered is probably right but that is very odd. Possible someone was crack and resubmitting their high end 9s? Someone check and see what 10-15 cards up and down cert #'s are.

I've heard some submitters submit very large bulk orders where they request only the 10s be slabbed. I believe this type of service is limited to PSA's top submitters.

It would be very interesting to see what one of these A-Rods would go for now. It seems most of his stuff has tanked.

Are the odds really that low? I understand how you got that number: total 10s (40) out of the total amount that have been graded (14327) but what if they were both subbed by someone like 4SC who seems to be very good at getting 10s (insert whatever sarcastic remark you think fits here)? Odds would be somewhat better would they not?

Odds are it was on a bulk PSA 10 pre-screen. May have been 100+ ARods submitted and those that were worthy of PSA 10 would've been the only cards holdered, and would have been sequential.

I hate seeing threads like this because I was the person that submitted the only SGC 100 ARod back in 1998 (a year before I was asked to join SGC) and sold it long before anyone (including myself) realized the true significance of that card in the PRISTINE grade. I had people contact me a year or two later offering $20K+ for it. C'est la vie... Alas, I sold my Jeter to a certain private buyer for a previously mentioned collector for a little over $6K and thought I was doing fantastic. Then I've watched the last few sell for $20K+. No way I'm selling my Bruce Chen Chrome 10 with that track record... image

The amazing part about your card is I truly believe your card was actually pristine with no haircut.

I saw things back in the early 2000's that proved to me people were using laser cutters and made millions.

  • Funny how cards go full circle. I bought the Dmitri Arod SP PSA 10 after it sold to the buyer as described above at a show And then I bought a few more Arod sp psa 10s pre steroid findings. Wish I had those decisions back lol. They've been in my safe deposit box since. Won't be pretty if I try to sell those as I agree value is way down. Al

Didn't the Dmitri collection sell well after ARod admitted to steroid use?
  • I bought it between one of his admissions and before his one year ban which is when ARod stuff really nosedived...not one of my better buys for sure.

One of the main reasons I don't buy modern anymore... I'm sure it still has a lot of value though being so rare.

With all the Arod cards you have, your saying you don't own a PSA 10 SP rookie?!
