1827 CBH - please help.

What can you experts tell me about this? I blasted it with white light, and posted huge pics so that you can see all the details and flaws.

Also, why is it proof-like?

Thanks!

Based on the pictures, I'd say XF details, cleaned. It is not rare nor desirable (just being honest).

Looks like an O.104 to me. R1. But I'm on the road and away from my books.

Prooflike surfaces are not very unusual.

Looks low AU, high XF, dipped. Hard to say from the images.

I hope you did not buy it. There is always the chance it is a rare variety, but with 148 different varieties, not including die states, I am not able to take the time to attribute this coin. Maybe one of you younger men will have the time to attribute it.

Mozin means O.101 - O.149, of course. 49 marriages. The only reason I suffer through attributing 1827's is because there are so many scarce ones. I think there are only 2 or 3 R1's out of 49. Do you feel lucky?

Darn, I forgot about the R8 1827 marriage. Guess I am getting old. Sorry boys. Thanks Lance for correcting me. When there are five editions of the Overton book, I tend to forget what has happened in the last nearly fifty years of collecting Capped Bust Half Dollars, since the first edition Overton was published.
