    It's ones like this that I can't figure out:

    Excellent 5 2013 Bowman 49 David Price Card

    I think I have a pretty good eye on these new cards, and I can see where I might miss something that makes it a 9, but this baffles me. What do you guys think is the most likely reason why a pack fresh, centered, sharp cornered card would be worse than the crappy 1956 card in the same batch?

    You missed a surface wrinkle. They are sometimes very hard to spot.

    Edit: Surface wrinkles = automatic 5 no matter how nice the card appears to be.

    This happened to me once also, sent in what I believe were three GEM and got back a PSA 5 and two PSA 7. They had damage on the reverse side which wasn't there when the cards left my home. <Draw Conclusion Here>

    Yep, definitely a surface wrinkle on the back. I sent in 3 Griffey UD Rookies, all of which I thought had a chance at a 10, got back 2 9's and a 5, got it back saw the wrinkle

    I can top that, I once got a 6.5 on a card exactly as you describe. Like someone said, a surface wrinkle equals a 5. I never did figure out what the problem of it was before selling it.

    1. what do you do with the modern cards you have graded?
    2. Did you put the cards in first name alpha order or did PSA?

    1. The Wil Myers card is going on the desk of my star-struck 14 year old daughter who has met him a few times. I had no say in that one. As for the others, I would like to keep one and sell one of each player that I have two of. I think I can pay for both by selling one.

    2. PSA did that. I think I sorted them by year on my spreadsheet and this is how it came back.
