I believe that I have run into one of the most unreasonable bidders of all time. I havent been able to contact Ebay yet, will do that tomorrow. Here's the story: I sold a $3.99 card on ebay a few weeks back advertised as mint. The corners were all nice but the centering was probably 70/30 at best side to side. I did not scan the back of the card as I usually dont unless they have greater value. Anyways, the buyer contacts me calling me a liar for advertising as mint when the card had a mark on the back. Certainly not intentional as i am not interested in the hassle over a $4 card. Simply carelessness on my part. Buyer goes on to say that he has sent many cards to psa over the years and is certain that this card would have graded a PSA 9 without the mark. He gives me til Saturday to resolve this to his satisfaction or he is leaving negative feedback because I am a liar. So I ask him how would he like to see this resolved to his satisfaction. He says he has lost too much time already with this transaction and therefore not interested in returning for full money back. I offer to refund him fully and just keep the card. Not good enough. THIS IS HIS ONLY SOLUTION:

"SINCE HE BOUGHT A CARD ADVERTISED AS MINT, HE WANTS A MINT CARD (AKA BVG OR PSA 9) OF THIS CARD". VCP ON A PSA 9 IS $200.93

BEFORE I OUT THIS CLOWN I WILL GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO REALIZE HOW UNREASONABLE HE IS.

MY REAL QUESTION IS WILL EBAY ALLOW HIM TO LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK IF I AGREED TO REFUND HIM WITHOUT HIM EVEN RETURNING MY CARD?

Just ignore the idiot. Ebay will make him return the card to you to get his refund. I would make him do that or no refund, personally.

I would not worry about negative feedback in a case like this. If you contact ebay and forward his extortion demand, they should remove it anyway, but even if they don't, just respond simply by saying, "Offered full refund but buyer refused and demanded additional compensation." I wouldn't even waste 2 minutes agonizing over this guy.

    Great advice.
  • Clearly he is unreasonable to begin with to be making such demands. I'd probably have some fun with him since you already handled it appropriately. Apologize for the oversight, refund the $4, tell him to keep the card and then send him listings of graded 9's to purchase. That should really set him off!

To be fair to all the sellers on here with high integrity constantly struggling with Ebays' buyer protection program, I feel it is my civic duty to warn anyone from selling to this person v_ballqueen.

you're probably going to catch a negative no matter what you do

i'd refund the money, return or not, and just move on

if you get neg'd, just reply to it that you refunded the money

most buyers will see that and won't care that it happened

Did he send you a scan of the "mark" on the back? You probably didn't miss it at all & it's something he created just to make his case.
I would say something about karma but I don't think it matters with chuckleheads like him.

You are getting a neg here...dont worry about it. One negative is not going to change peoples opinion of you. Let him leave the neg, then reply to it that you offered refund, buyer wanted to extort you.

Send him an email telling you that you will refund it you get it back. I wouldnt give the DB a penny refund without the card.

I agree that you are going to get a negative but I think chances are good that you will be able to have it removed. They will have a record of your conversation and based on that alone, you should get the negative removed.

Either that or do the garage sale thing.

Kinda off topic, but I uset to work with a couple of clowns who were always trying to 1up each other on gags.
Clint put Glens pick-up on a local swap-shop kinda thing with a crazy low amount. Made up a short story about
needing money fast. From maybe 7 am to lunch around noon, when Glen checked his phone, he had like 60 some
messages....1 of them from their BOSS!!image He spent days telling people the truck aint for saleimage

It really amazes me how some people think. This is all over a $4 card? FOUR DOLLARS!!!!

Please let us know who this guy is. Adding him to my block bidders list will be a pleasure.

yeah, but you have to add "in order to be considerate of my neighbors, the sale is in the backyard. If gate is shut please ring doorbell several times"
Too many people drive by and figure the sale is cancelled since they don't see it out front image

Truth. I thought about that after my first post, and it should probably be an "Interior Sale, Everything Must Go. Furniture, electronics, etc. Please ring doorbell."

My first experience with this kind of stuff was when a few of my students set up a classmate. They posted an ad saying that he had free goats and chickens. Same as that other poster....kid had 50 calls and texts by lunchtime. Craigslist opens up a whole world of practical joke opportunities.

    1) Block him
    2) refund him the $4 and note it in the paypal comment box as "customer not satisfied and gave full refund" and told customer to keep the card on me.

If he threatened negative feedback all you have to do is call, if he leaves it, and eBay will remove it.

    Guaranteed!

I agree this buyer's attempt at extortion is way over the top, but, and I mean this with all due respect, didn't you as the seller set yourself up just a bit for this problem?

It gets extremely frustrating as a buyer when sellers advertise a particular card as "mint" only to find when you get it in hand that it's not. Often these same sellers provide crappy photos and/or no back scans. Therefore it forces the buyer to rely on the word of the seller and when that word is inaccurate it just sets you, the seller, up for problems. Ebay obviously caters to its buyers, so extortion is inevitable isn't it? What I don't understand is why advertise a card as mint to begin with unless you're absolutely sure it is? If you're not going to provide hi-res scans of both the front and back, aren't you just asking for potential problems? For $4, it sure as hell doesn't seem worth it.
