  • Don't worry darlin', even if "Ribbed" wins..it won't go up.

Plus telling this bunch not to vote for the bawdy choice is like asking a kid not to use his sleeve as a napkin image

I voted for the first one, but in keeping with the cool "tony the tiger" theme,
    it really should be:

    "They're GGGRRR-EG'S"

What's really funny is that Greg has decided to collect this set, requested it be added to the Registry, worked hard weighting the set for the Registry, BUT HE STILL DOESN'T HAVE IN HIS POSSESSION A SINGLE GRADED CARD FROM THIS SET!!!

You really have to admire the guy image.

Watch he gets his Pete Rose PSA 9 in the mail and says, "Man these suck."
  • It is okay to vote for Kelloggs - Ribbed for Pleasure. From the SCD Standard Catalog 11th edition page 183, in the 1970 set description which introduces you to the Kelloggs cards, it describes Kellogg's cards as having "a layer of ribbed plastic." This simulates a 3D effect. In side by side comparisons, most people preferred the cards with the simulated 3D effect over those cards lacking it. The simulated 3D effect produced a more pleasurable viewing experience. Perhaps this too is why you chose this set over the plain, smooth, and ordinary regular issue Topps set.

  • Since when has using one's sleeve as a napkin been frowned upon by the membership of THIS forum?

    Zardoz,

There are very few things that make me shake my head at this board anymore. But, leave it to you to venture into new and uncharted territories...

    This is a funny place....image

  • Thanks for all the responses, guys. You all are too funny.

Carol: It's all in good fun. I never intended to name my set that. Just joking a bit.

Sixdart: I don't think Carol is going to answer that question. image

Vargha: I don't think so. Although that is a nice play on words.

BigKid: I did foul that question up. It will be "they're Gggrreegggg'sss" on the registry.

Gemmint: Thanks for the adoration. image I do have two ungraded sets in my posession and no I don't think they suck. I love them.

Waittill: You have a valid point, although I don't think you're going to sway Carol.

Zacojam: Tell me about it! imageimage

Master Z: You never cease to make me laugh.

    FB: Ditto.

Thanks again guys. I will be leaving this up for another day so that anyone else can vote if they'd like. Then when I receive my first couple of cards in the mail which should be very soon (they were shipped from Michigan on Mon.), I will start registering the set.

Cardsg12 - I think you're making a good choice with your set name. I'm relieved to know that you finally got some of the cards and that you love them. Good luck!
  • Thanks Gemmint. Not to tip anybody off, since I don't think anyone else is working this set right now, but there's a huge card on there right now that I'm watching and hoping to have the $ to win. I'll put in a snipe, but I'm afraid it may go out of my range if you know what I mean. I may have to settle for a PSA 9 set. We'll see.

And that brings up an interesting question. As much as DSL (the seller) has been mentioned on this board, do you think that they have someone scanning these boards. They have a few up and going on Ebay right now and those are the first I've seen being sold by them. Do you think it's possible we have a DSL employee amongst us?

  • Okay They're Grreeegggg'''sss wins. 11 votes. Although "Ribbed for pleasure finished a close second at 10 votes. I would have hated to butt heads with Carol over that one any way. image I'll let everyone know when my set starts to get posted.

  • I voted for Greg's Special K..oh wel..I never win.
You wouldn't have had to butt heads with me, I was joking...it would have been BJ image
If you could have talked BJ in to it I wouldn't have minded!

    Carol
  • Thats OK

Inspired by this post, I shall be listing a Kelloggs set and call it "Ribbed for Effect"

Surely no one could attach any lascivious connotation to that.... unless they had an absolutely filthy mind.

  • Zardoz: When one is speaking, always remember who you are speaking to. I don't think you'll be able to use Ribbed in a sentence around here anymore. lol. image

Carol: I was joking too. I wouldn't have butted heads, just moved to sgc. Okay, maybe that one was a little harsh.

  • Thanks, Master Z. I was hoping that those graded singles I purchased on eBay might get here today. But I checked in and they haven't. I don't understand why it's taking so long. He emailed me Mon. and said that he would mail them this past Monday. I didn't think it'd take that long to get 2 cards from Mich. to North Carolina, but oh well. There's always tomorrow. I am really happy with the set I decided on, thanks to the advice of this board. I see you've been double punching the voting machine also. image
Ribbed has got 12 votes now. But, alas, the polls are closed. Sorry. image
