extra cardboard hanging off corners

Does anyone know what to do about these pesky extra threads? appearing especially on topps 87 as well as score 88 cards...

I recommend scissors, cut the card in half and throw in the trash.

Now that is funny! Mean, but funny I hate those pesky bits of extra cardboard or fuzz at the corners of some cards. I used to very carefully try to remove the extra piece by putting it between two finger nails, but it's a delicate process. For what it's worth, PSA generally does not downgrade for this issue.

I enjoy junk wax as much as anyone, but even I draw the line at 87T & 88S.

Iv'e performed such surgery using tweezers. Works well. No latex gloves required.

I have a 1948 Leaf Sid Luckman that's a $500,000 PSA 10 if not for slightly rounded corners, minimal wet-transfer and being a little off-center...

I remember back in 88 when Score fixed the corner issue with their baseball cards, some card stores started trying to charge more for them saying they were going to rare.

Scissors work well if you have a steady hand. Thankfully, it sounds like you have a lot to practice your technique on before you get to the Glavine.

yeah, have tried to cut others in the set (obviously) but it seems to nick the card itself regardless..Although one guy suggested that PSA wouldn't mind the excess, I'm not sure I'd sub it. Seemed like an issue that at least one of you would have dealt with... I'll try & upload a pic tonight in case someone can help.
