Help With Elway & Marino Autos

I was thinking of sending these in for authentication. They were acquired in person at the Wachovia on the Pro Am day. Will they pass PSADNA authentication?

They were playing golf and signing when they walked between putting in and teeing off. It was crazy so they were rushed.

It took a few holes before Marino would sign and said something like didn't I sign already and I told him he passed me by the last 4 holes and then he signed it.

That's why I wanted to know if it would pass PSA or just hold on to them because I know they are real.

These are also the UK Minis so smaller in their hands.

Real Elway and Marino for comparison . Sigs could have been rushed if they were in person but they look off to me. Especially the Elway.

Did you get them in person yourself?
  • Might want a more recent IP comparison auto for Elway. That exemplar is 20 years old.

If they signed them in front of you, then YOU KNOW they are legit. It would be frustrating if Psa/Dna states they are not............because YOU KNOW they would be WRONG.

Here's one from a year ago. Elway's sig has pretty much stayed the same. I've never seen one where the y in Elway was just a straight line instead of looped. I'm sure the in person sig could have been rushed resulting in the different sig

I wouldn't submit them especially if you plan on keeping them in your collection. Like you said, you know they're are real. No authentication needed.
  • I think the Marino looks good. I would probably sub both, even if you plan on keeping them. Holders look nice, provide protection, and make them easier to sell if you ever want to move it.

The marino is good, even though its rushed that D is perfect to the spot. The Elway wouldnt/shouldnt pass even though it very well may be legitimate as often happens with in person moving athletes sigs

Val, I would keep them as they are. You know they are real. Enjoy the experience!

Edit to add: I got Jimmie Johnson a couple years ago at the Wachovia. He couldn't have been nicer!

i don't know that i would sub them

question you have to ask yourself is, even if they authenticate, does it add much if any value to it even if you're selling?

if i was collecting a set, to be honest i wouldn't pick those even if there were slabbed for the same reason you're worried whether they'll even pass - they're rushed signatures from both

i'd pass on it, you know the story which is the best part of it honestly

and, sounds like marino hasn't changed much - i destroyed him years ago at a golf tourney but he had enough the final day and called me out on it - but i tagged him for 8 in 3 days before i got popped! image

RookieHOFers - Jimmie Johnson is great away from the track. I got him at the Wachovia a few years back that's been the only time. I have seen him about 5 other times but it's been at NASCAR events.

Thanks guys for the options, I really do appreciate it. If I can ever help with NASCAR stuff let me know.
  • Both obviously good. Elway is formed correctly and demonstrably legit.

I am part of the camp that says it is crazy not to sub them. You know they are real, trust in PSA to also see that they are legit. Worth more in slabs than raw with just a promise from a seller in that they are legit sigs.

I am in the other camp. That good and bad material passes is already known. Why throw money away? If you are selling quality material to a knowledgeable collector, no "papers" are needed. My 2 cents

Bounce is correct a few posts above.

My thoughts exactly! No reason to submit sub-par autos that most will pass on because they just don't look that nice. Even if they did sell, it won't be for much.
