Opening a case with Ebay Question

I am sure this has already been answered but If a buyer says he is okay taking a return of an item should you still open a case through ebay for protection? I mean couldn't someone say it was never returned?

It is fine to send back an item without opening a case. You need to send it back with delivery confirmation. If they say it was never returned, then open a case and show the proof of delivery.

The way ebay is now, if someone opens a case, it has a chance to affect your seller status, even if there wasnt any major issue or if the problem was resolved. I had a guy open a case because the USPS shoved a wax box I sold into a small receptical and it ripped the box open inside the package. Like that was somehow my fault. I worked it out with the buyer and got refunded via insurance through the postal service, but on my seller summary, it still counted against me.

you can go either way - i usually like to go ahead and open the case just to get things on the record and make sure we're both serious

you do have a pretty long time to open up a case, so if you can return then just get the DC so you can show you returned it and probably won't have to do the case unless seller won't refund

I just opened a case by accident. I bought two boxes of 2014 Topps Series 2 from a guy, and he only sent one. I'm certain it was just an oversight. I clicked on Contact Buyer, then chose the relevant option, and next thing I know I had opened a case. I sincerely just wanted to shoot the guy a message to ask him to send the other one.
