Ripped a case of 2012 Topps Mini Baseball

In an effort to complete my 2012 Topps Mini baseball gold set of 661 (still need 7) I finally broke down and purchased a case off eBay. In the end the boxes were under $55 each so I consider it a bargain. That said it was a fairly frustrating experience as I did not fill a single empty slot in the set. Furthermore at least 5 and probably 6 boxes were missing the coveted auto/relic. Now, since I have opened more than a couple boxes that had multiple relics and one box even had 3 I am not going to gripe. Still it is frustrating to open that last pack and not find a swatch of John Axford jersey.

So a couple questions.

- There was a lot of board hype when this set came out. I do not recall it was on the level of 2014 Topps Heritage, but it lasted awhile. Anyone still particularly fond of the set?
- 2013 Mini's died a quick death. Is this a case of one year hype or does the annual mini set have legs? Were Bryce Harper and Yu Darvish enough to carry 2012 I, for one, can't seem to get enough of the 2012 set and pray I finish the gold set soon before I get bored and order another case
- What is the board's take on those "one-of-a-kind" printer plates? I find them clunky and unappealing. I can almost reprint Bobby Abreu's myself and this brings me no joy.

That said, I've got a case worth of double (triple, quadruple) golds to trade so let me know if this is your thing.

If you didn't get the box hit can't you reach out to Topps and have them send those cards out?

ya, what are you missing? I opened up 3 or 4 boxes of that and I'm still short on the base set.
I have a good number of gold cards, and I'm sure we could work out something.
  • Hey Jr!

I thought the concept had legs but they raised the price on 2013 and made the hits harder, so collectors lost interest. I thought they hit a home run with the 2012 set but it might take 5 years for collectors to realize it. I busted 2 cases myself and did really well on breakup value, but that was when raw sets were bringing $80 and common golds and platinum's were selling.

I purchased a few boxes each year, but didn't open much. I was really hoping they would create a Heritage Mini set. I think you get one per case this year which really made no sense.

I thought they limited production in 2012, but overproduced based on demand in 2013, so the scarcity frenzy was missing in 2013.

Now I would only buy if it was a Heritage design. One of the coolest things about the 1975 set was they didn't do it in 1976.
  • Please tell me you hit the gold #119.

They made Topps Mini in football last year (online exclusive) and have announced Topps Chrome Mini's for this year (football again).

I wish I could find the other printing plates for Gonzalez (I have two), or that black mini /5. No Gonzalez in 2014 and I have no current pc now, so I likely wont go after the minis this year.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
