I don't mind the "dirty" toning around the rims, but the gold toning across the portrait is kind of hazy and almost makes the coin look like a lower grade circulated piece. If it were just the rim toning, I think that it would be a great piece.
Fooey I'm making a Mess of this Post. The Straws are scratches on the Slab that I forgot to Mention. In Fact Just about all of the Wierd Marks are Scratches.
Fairlaneman - If the mint would take the pretty lady in the picture and put her on a coin , then I think we will really have something nice to collect, aside from your mercury dimes that is. Bear
Discounting the scratches on the holder, which make the coin look like a parking lot find, I would say it is not ugly. I find the obverse to be OK, and the reverse not bad-looking at all. Not gorgeous, but not bad, either. Decent.
I personally don't care for brown or black toning when it obscures the luster on a coin. If someone gave me that '26-P (I wouldn't buy it), I'd be looking for a replacement. Just my opinion - we all have different tastes. Your wife, on the other hand, looks like a "keeper".
By a 2 to 1 Margin People Did Not Like the Dime. The Picture Hurt it by Not Showing the Real Luster the Dime has.Bought the Dime from Dennis (Python1) who Did Not Like it Either. My Assessment is "I Like It". Of course I have it in My Hand and can see the Luster Shining Through that You Folks Cannot See. Also It is a Perfect Match to a Couple of other Dimes in the Set.Take Care: Ken
