<< <i>I do see how these are mildly interesting but when bidding on ebay reaches fanatical levels I have to wonder.

These peoples be crazies. Dey pays good monies for destroyed monies.image >>

This is similar to collecting error coins, just taking it to the next level!

    2013 and before : real

    2014-present : potentially fake

I'm thinking a surplus one may come on the market one day and the fun will be over.

    Why would you think so?

2013 and before: These can be made at any time, including 2014 and later. Just get some 2013 and earlier coins to crush.

2014-present: The Mint still has crushing machines and is likely crushing coins, just not making them available to third-parties easily.

Or... the fun could just be beginning. Sure, prices may decline, but fun could increase.

I know the DCarr detractors would love him to buy one, but not for the same purposes you'd consider.

It'd be interesting to find out the earliest one was made to confirm that Ike kill. Or perhaps the Ike kill was the gsa's idea. image

2014-present : you're not the only one thinking that the fun has just begun.

Just imagine the insanity if the US Mint brought one of these Waffling Machines to the next Commemorative
early release party. The big decision for Collectors - image do I give it to PCGS for slabbing with the
FS / Special Label or do I let the US Mint Waffle it first and then hand it over to PCGS for FS / First Waffled ?

Are you listening US Mint Marketing ? image

How about a commem celebrating the 721st anniversary of the waffle? It could be released in two finishes, waffled and unwaffled.

I would definitely want a waffled waffle coin! image

With the US Mint having taken the plunge into strangeness with the curved HOF Series how much of a stretch would it be
to put out an actual waffle coin? It would be right in line with the guitar coins, the Eiffel Tower coins, the Folding Box coins
etc that the rest of the world is into.

Surprise us US Mint desperados. Do something really off the wall.

Many of those are actually made for US collectors, not for the rest of the world.

After praising them for not jumping on the lunar new year bandwagon, I realized the mint does little outside of congressional approval. The mint is pretty conservative in their interpretation of the law's allowance of numismatic items -- even the 2009 UHR was controversial.

How did the curved coin come about? Congress mandated it in the public law that created the commemorative. Spouse? Congress. ATB? Congress. 5oz, too. Likewise for the Native American issues.
