Weekend Vintage Football Rippage... (Ripping complete, with bonus packs!!)

I'm going to hold off a little longer on opening any of my big stuff (see P.S. for list of future rips) but I plan on ripping a '73, '78, '79, '80, '81, '84 & '86 wax pack this weekend. The '73 & '86 came from BBCE, the '81 came from eBay and the rest were a part of a group of packs I stumbled open in Galena IL of all places back at the beginning of May.

Here is a picture of that small pack find! (one from each year will be opened)

Here are the BBCE packs, the '73 will be a first!

Rippage will probably start late on Saturday.

Oh my. This is gonna be juicy. You know you have significant issues when you start salivating over the mere sight of packs. image

Those three 79s? I'm calling it right now -- Lofton, Newsome & Campbell. image

    Good luck!

    Scott:

Don't forget to visit at the booth at the National again this year (I'll post details via the company ID as we get closer to the National). We've got a few really neat rips planned, including a '58 FB Cello (sorry if that rubs salt in the wound). Hoping for success similar to last year's '55 Bowman pack.

    Alright, here we go...

First up is one of the '78 packs from "my find". Cards were in great shape, no major star power but it yielded 4 super sharp, well centered cards...

Decent start Scott ... now let's get some HUGE STARS with sharp corners and great centering. Looking forward to the rest of the results.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Them 78s are nice!! Good luck with the others👍

Next up was a '79 pack from the same find. Another great pack, centering was pretty good with 5 being great, and 1 being almost miscut. Unfortunately that one card was a Lofton! A little centered star power with the Harris.

Keeping with the packs from the find, next up is a '80 pack. Overall nice cards, a couple dinged corners among them. Centering overall was decent with 2 being really great. No star power to be found.

The pack from the find is an '84 pack. Not much to say about this one. Centering typical from '84s and only star power was a Newsome Instant Reply. Only one decently centered card was found!

On to a pack from a small lot of '81s I got of eBay. Another great pack, centering was pretty good with 3 great ones and a star! It's a little oc top to bottom but not bad.

Next up an '86 pack I picked up at the BBCE store on opening day. Another typical pack for the year, centering was all over the place. A couple stars however, including another Payton sighting!

    image

    Next up the '73!!!
  • ssollarsssollars Posts: 933 ✭✭✭✭
Lastly, the '73 pack that I ordered from BBCE.

Not too bad of a pack, although the centering and tilts took their tolls on most of them. The checklist would have been great if it hadn't have been the gum card. At first glance, besides the rough cut on the bottom edge, the Tarkenton looks awesome. However it has two minor surface indentations that would keep it from getting a high grade image

Next up a couple bonus packs, help me I can't stop!!!!!!! image

To continue the madness, I ripped another '84 from the same group and the first. Again not much there but a slightly oc checklist and a Dickerson rushing leaders that didn't look all that bad. And absolutely the last pack until the Nationals, I decided to grab a '77 pack from the box and bust it open.

Nothing there either, one nice card and that was all she wrote!

Thanks was watching guys, it sure takes a lot longer to do a rip when your cataloging, scanning and posting along the way.
