Help finding a sentimental card using PSA CERT

About 20 years ago my dad bought me my first Wayne Gretzky rookie at a card show in Michigan. I subbed it in 2004 and, out of desperation for cash, sold it about eight years ago.

For a couple years now I've been using the cert number to browse eBay listings, hoping to find it again. No luck. Who knows, maybe someone cracked and re-subbed it?

But I have hope it's out there and I'd like to try to get it back. Have no record of the buyer. Other than eBay, does anybody have suggestions on where to look for graded cards?

BTW: If anybody finds the card I will gladly pay a handsome premium for it (about 3X VCP). It's a 1979 Topps Gretzky PSA 6 Cert# 30939110

Thanks in advance!

It might be a tedious task, but you can go to the
Set Registry and check out all of the sets that
the card would be included in.

I think this would only work with people who
    scan their slabs though.

Since it's a 6, you would also need to check their
"Item Album". They could have two and have
the better one in the set.

    Good luck with your search.

My suggestion would be to try to add the card to your sets. If you're able to, that means it's not registered in a set. If you can't, at least you'll know that it's part of the Set Registry. Good luck with your search.

Thanks and good info above (I hadnt thought about the registry). I checked and it's not in anyone's set so I went ahead and added the cert to my inventory.

I know if someone else tries to add it PSA will send me an email, then I can hopefully go from there with it. Hope that's OK to do.

You may be able to find the ebay ID if you left feedback for the buyer. If so, they may still be active and might even still have it.

Actually, I just went back and looked at feedback and it looks like ebay stripped out much of the transaction information. All my old feedback no longer has transaction numbers and the newer ones just have transaction numbers only. There was a time when the auction description showed up as well.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

I would have PSA 6 Gretzky 1979 as a favorite search e-mail thing for ebay, collectors corner, etc... for as many as you can think of.

Good luck! I know what it's like to have sentimental cards that mean everything to you. If it's possible talk to your dad about it, and tell him you would like his help finding a new Gretzky card for your collection. That way you can at least have an even greater story behind this new one?

    All the best.

Did you receive payment through Paypal? If so, it may be worth a shot to see if you can find the buyer info. If it were me and I found the buyer, I would offer him a trade for the same card in the same grade or even one higher (if he still had it, of course).

Add to set registry I think might work if still around. I know if I put in the wrong number I get notified that that owner still owns

Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone. There's no paypal or eBay record of it...that was one of the first things I tried (to get in touch with the one I sold it to).

I can't remember who bought it.

"Gretzky PSA 6" has been in my eBay saved search for a longtime.

I haven't thought about going through the worthpoint database till just now...I'm going to give that a try.

Vcp membership also has a option to add a card to want list grade and company. If not a member I can add to want list and see if it pops. Not a hockey collector
