Team America is the best war movie ever and Rocky IV is the best Cold War movie ever

"During this fight, I've seen a lot of changing, in the way you feel about me, and in the way I feel about you. In here, there were two guys killing each other, but I guess that's better than twenty million. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!"

    << <i>The Deer Hunter >>

    GREAT GREAT MOVIE.

Gets my vote for best movie about Vietnam.
I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.

    Korean War Documentary- Chosin

The battle of Chosin was one of the most decorated battles in U.S. history! I missed this day in school! WOW! Can't get it out of my mind! They say that any servicemen that fought in the Korean war can get a free flight to South Korea whenever they want courtesy of South Korea. >>

    Morning,

My Father fought at the Battle of Chosin and was offered a Battlefield promotion from Sargeant to Captain because of his actions during this fight. After fighting with Patton all the way from North Africa to Berlin in WWII he told me that nothing affected him as much as the aftermath of the Chosin Resevoir battle. He was then put in charge of a battlefield recovery team and told me stories of having to break corpses to get them to fit on stretchers to be removed because they were frozen in death positions. The tempertures were -20 below zero and colder.

  • Rescue Dawn with Christian Bale. Based on a true story where he plays a pilot in Vietnam and his plane goes down and he is taken prisoner. Great flick.

Also I dont think anyone said Rambo. Those are great too.

Thin Red Line is my favorite war movie.

I really enjoyed We Were Soldiers since he was a 'Nam vet and we got to see it in theaters together. Also, U-571 is a blast- at least it was in theaters, especially with those depth charges going off!

Red Dawn (80's version). Almost everyone I know my age in the Army has said that this movie was a great motivator for them to join. Threads was overrated - humanity would not just give up like that in the long term, possibly for a few months until reality set in and people began moving forward to improve their lot in life. Rebuilding would occur on some level fairly quickly.

I cannot remember the name but it had a US soldier and a Japanese soldier both stuck on a deserted Island in the Pacific. They both took turns capturing and torturing each other.

Not a war movie but I love the scenes of u boats sinking ships in WWII, those torpedoes did some damage.

As an Iraq War Vet I'll vouch for one film about the Iraq war.

Battle for Haditha - Surprisingly this low budget film gets a lot right. Worth the watch if you have Netflix. Based on a true story as well.

    Other favorites:

    Full Metal Jacket
    Heartbreak Ridge

It is a movie and it's called Hell in the Pacific with Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune. My favorite when I was a kid!

If you haven't seen Stalag 17 you really should, it's a great film. William Holden won an Oscar for Best Actor and it was well deserved. Doug

Lots of great war movies already listed, but I would add The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly.

Run silent run deep. The Dambusters. Thirty seconds over Tokyo.

You had to be a kid in the 60's watching black and white war movies with your brothers when Mom and Dad weren't home to really appreciate these.

A superb film no one has mentioned (I think) is Glory, a Civil War film starring Matthew Broderick and Denzel Washington.

    Sergeant York
    Sink The Bismarck
    The Blue Max

    Kelly's Heroes

I'm glad someone mentioned Stalag 17, fantastic. Others.....They Were Expendable (1945), PT 109 (1963) and 30 Seconds over Tokyo (1944) are great films.
