1980 Topps Cello Box

So I was looking over some auctions and came across a 1980 Topps Cello Box. The box has been shrink wrapped which I'm guessing was added at a later time. My question is would anyone on here bid/buy a box like this? I am not overly familiar with older boxes aside from the fact the prices have skyrocketed over the last couple years.

At minimum shrink wrapped by BBCE if on eBay.
Ideally direct from BBCE.

For the sticker price? Sure Be prepared for 'only if BBCE wraps it'.
<< <i>The box is not on Ebay and if I won it I would peel off the shrink wrap and send it to BBCE. I'm just wondering is it super risky to bid/buy this box without being able to actually see the packs inside? >>
If it's not on ebay, I would double check the return policy of the seller and any satisfaction guaranteed by the auction venue. I'd might be willing to risk on ebay, but only because of their buyer protection. If it was found to be fake, you're going to get your money back.

Depends on the price.

What the heck are you talking about? The box that the OP is asking about is not being offered by BBCE.

<< <i>The cello box just sold for $796.50. I emailed the auction house and was told that they would refund the money if the box didn't pass inspection by BBCE. I didn't win the box.

Did you ask them to tear the shrinkwrap off? I did and she told me she would then 20 minutes later said the owner of the auction house decided not to but would refund if it didn't pass BBCE approval.

I said the same thing to them and they said the person who owned the box did it to protect it. Hopefully it turns out well for whomever bought it.

He may not be aware of that option. He did correct the listing though in that box is not factory sealed as none were.

I didn't realize 1978 Topps were issued in 1982. Although I'm sure he's 120% honest, how do we know what happened with the box prior to 1982? Nobody ever resealed packs before then? I remember seeing resealed packs at least as far back as the mid-80s. Probably would have been earlier had I come across older packs before then.
It looks like this box sold for $330 below the peak. Is the market softening up some?

One thing I've noticed over the past year or so is the influx of boxes on eBay with BBCE's stamp of approval. In the not too distant past you could've conducted a search and had a couple of fingers left over when using two hands to count. Now? I've seen the figure as high as 150+. The wild appreciation -- combined with increased knowledge of the service Steve provides -- has successfully siphoned some of the unopened goodness from the woodwork, and we're all witnessing a glimpse of what was in there. Save rack boxes, material from '80 is still abundant. Not too terribly surprising. As a result, prices (wax) are retreating from a high of ~$1,100.
