Damn Eric, that is the nicest 1 I think I have ever seen. Great job.

nice card, but does it really qualify under the thread title? it's definitely a 1 - rounded corners and corner folds, staple holes, it's pretty rough from a pure grading perspective.

lack of creases helps it out a ton from eye appeal obviously.

Tremendous eye appeal for the grade; definitely captures the spirit of the mantra in the thread title, for me. Great find, brother.

    Great card, Eric!

Here is mine, picked up at the National. A little paper loss in the "E" in Babe.

What makes that Ruth so insane to me, aside from the obvious good condition, is the focus. Usually such a blurry image.

Pretty much my whole collecting philosophy is low grade/eye appeal. I sleep well knowing that whoever's doing the grading, be it next year or next decade, the cards'll basically stay the same grade. One guy's 10 might be another's 9, but a lowly 1 is usually a 1 everywhere, LOL. I stare at these few ultra-low grade favorites periodically each day. The grades on these don't even all add up to the "10" on a GEM MT holder image The Leroy is the roughest of the bunch, but as one gets to know that card, the centering and focus gets deeply appreciated.

    Thanks, fellas.

That Cobb is tremendous. Just tremendous. It just pops. If I spent a ton more on a higher graded one and then saw that one, I would face palm myself into a coma.

This is one that presents very strong for the grade IMHO. Great centering, very few print issues, and lack of tilt. Haven't felt the need to upgrade because it's in such nice condition.

Tried once as it is definitely undergraded--much nicer than almost any 8 I've ever seen. Thought it was a lock. No dice. May crack it or may just enjoy it in holder as is--haven't decided for sure.

That is among the cleanest yellow backgrounds on a Koufax that I have ever seen south of the few 9s. You rarely see them like that. Beautiful. I once paid for an 8 that did not look that nice. It seems one can find centering or a nice background but never both. Dan has some great cards.

Cool thread Eric and lot's of great cards posted. Here's my contribution, picked-up at last year's National and I still can't find the "mystery wrinkle" that must've kept this beauty from grading higher.

I was able to finally add a card from my local card show. My pre-war collection sits at two cards now(this and the Ruth posted in this thread).

Sorry for the IPhone pictures. It looks better in person.

In regards to the Koufax rookie..............."Do not crack that out". If a card hand's down should bump and does not////there could be a problem. I will explain. High grade cards raw get EOT and MIN Size fairly regularly, yet I've only heard of a couple of downgrades on reviews of thousands of cards. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the Koufax....I just would not take the chance. It should be an 8 all day long.

If I sent in 100 Mantle, Mays and Aarons PSA 7 and above on review....I would probably get 10 bumps. If I broke those same cards out, I would probably get 20 EOT's with some higher and lower grades.
  • I just opened this thread and I really enjoyed the Bowman Mantle 2.5 with killer centering and that Koufax. Those were just stunners regardless of the grades. Grading is very subjective and most of the cards shows looked better than the grade given. If you are happy with your card, then just keep it as it unless you are looking to cash in on it, then yes, go for the bump. It can't hurt for trying.

My two favorite cards. The 3.5 is crease free and back damage free, but it has a tiny chip in the bottom left boarder.
That 1933 Goudey Ruth is amazing!! That is one heck of a card! WOOW
