Very cool to have the first issue graded.

What is the top grade that exists for that item?

The CGC scale goes to 10 just like PSA. However, it is virtually impossible to receive a 10 on anything other than a modern issue. A 9.8 is about as good as it gets from CGC. I think there are five 9.8's & sixteen 9.6 & Twenty 9.4's graded of the first SI issue.

I just bought a 2012 issue that is graded by BGS as "uncirculated" I plan on sending it to CGC to see how it grades.

Edited to add: I just performed a quick look through CGC's census and the highest I found was 9.8 modern or otherwise. You have to remember that magazines are much larger than cards and the paper is much thinner which leads to a lot more things that could detract from the grade. Also the interior pages are looked at for "whiteness" which can also detract from the overall grade.

How does Cgc handle mags with autos? Just slab and pay no attention to the auto? Or does the auto lower the grade?

I'm not sure it lowers the grade, but they will not recognize any auto unless it was signed in front of one of their employees. They will note the name of the autograph in the provenance at the top though, but only that so and so's name is written on the front. They have told me by e-mail that an additional sticker besides a mailing label (like a PSA/DNA sticker)will lower the grade.

A way around that would be to have cgc grade and slab the mag then send as is to psa/dna or spence to have the auto authenticated. The sticker can go right on the slab without affecting the mag grade.

That SI #1 is really nice, great pick up.

The Alomar brothers played locally in AAA, while I was working the stadium stands, so I was happy to pick this up at a good price (before HOF election).
