A couple of new AU bust halves

lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,888 ✭✭✭✭✭
I keep saying I'm just about done. And then something else comes along. Gonna skip the mortgage this month. The bank will understand.

Love both of those 1808's....but the first one is really sweet.
I've never seen 'E Pluribus Unum' with such fiery red toning.
    Great pickups....screw that bank!

edited to add: Both coins are fantastic.....#2 has some sweet crackage! image

The second one must be AU50 because it looks closer to XF in my opinion. Or is the flatness from the die?

I agree, Ankur. Although these early halves are tricky, I'd still call it a 45. I have an XF40 that has details just as sharp. But without the eye appeal. Maybe market graded?

If I was to pick one, I like the first one. 1808 is a tough date to find with nice color.

No. 2 is the 1808/7 ....as I'm sure you all know.
1808, is my favorite date, although I no longer have quite so many as I did.

Been thinking that I'd love to get one super choice example one of these days !

And by the way...am I the only one who's wondering about Lances new trophy ?
I don't recall seeing a thread of its own, it just got snuck into another thread quietly....

What's the Story morning glory ?!?

LOL. Okay jayPem. You mean this old thing.

I got shut out on two wonderful AU58's in the last few years. I've wanted to upgrade my XF45 for some time. HLRC had a nice 53 so I traded it in. I like it as a 55. Maybe I'll ask for a regrade.

The bank is not going to understand you not paying your mortgage........................ without pix of the 2 1808s. Very nice. I like them both.

Very nice 1815 as well. I know there are some nice ones out there from 1815, but there is also a lot of dreck. You were wise to hold out.

Good lookers, both. Love the Wayte Raymond album type of color on the 1st one and the neat obv. & rev. die-cracks on #2. image

Both nice, but that first one is sensational.

PS- as to the 1815... WOW. image

    Yep, there's that 1815 I was thinking of !
I like it as a 55 too, but the strange thing is the missing milling and the flat stars...that flat area on the rim seems fairly common on the 101 while the 101a,
the late die state, typically has nice full milling ??

That's my 2c on why it graded 53...but who knows ?

I've got a couple of coins that I'd lke to send in with it when it goes for reconsideration,
Of course you may not want the guilt by association...image

The second one is so-so and no better than XF.

Lance, be sure to get that O-102 into glen's study....I do see a bit of doubling there...

The 8/7 has decent luster. Looks like mine luster wise which is a 45...

A couple hundred, I suppose. About 140 different die marriages. That's paltry among Bust Half Nut Club members.

I'll probably never stop chasing them, really. My goal is a little fuzzy. I have no illusions about a complete die marriage set. It's not financially possible even if it were doable (and it's not). And I wouldn't be happy with the necessary compromises. I just pick up AU ones that appeal to me and occasionally upgrade something. Sometimes I get lucky.

Here's an 1807 large stars that sits adjacent to the 1808 in the OP.
    Lance.
