Rack box query

Were 79T baseball (39 cards per rack) & football (42 per) boxes commensurate? Or perhaps did Topps house 79T football & 80T baseball (also 42 cards per rack) in same-sized boxes?

TIA to anyone who can help a brother out!

Not sure, but I think the 77, 78, 79 and 80 boxes were all the same... and same for BB and FB. The 3 extra cards in FB and 80 BB only amount to the thickness of 12 cards, which I think would still fit. I believe the next redesign was in 81 (went to 48 cards and did away the header card). You can find some racks post-1980 with header cards, but I think they were using up old material. I have an 82 and 83 BB rack box, both have a 1982 copyright date on the bottom of the box. I would guess some of your 79/80 boxes probably have a 77 or 78 copyright date.

That being said, I hope someone can chime in and give us the facts.

Can't speak to football but Topps used same rack boxes from 1977-1979 (product code on bottom ending in -7).
