eBay, CCW, EMR's, Trust & Safety

I have already started a thread on this subject but will add a few more comments here.
As many of you are aware, there was something called CCW, Coin Community Watch. If you reported a counterfeit on the US site, that report went to CCW and was circulated to a group of members called EMR's, Enhanced Member Reporting, and if there was agreement, the listing would be cancelled and in the event of repeat offending or if you were a crook from China, there was the possibility of account suspension. If you reported anything at all on the UK site, that was always ignored.
I have read many threads here where coins have been discussed and it has been noted that reported coins had been removed by eBay. This was because of CCW and because many of the EMR's read threads on CU. I have also read threads where the seller was bleating that their coin, invariably a counterfeit or some AT'd garbage, had been removed by eBay. There have been plenty of discussions about CCW and EMR's and all sorts of conspiracy theories about the motivation and credibility of these EMR's but among the less hysterical and more intelligent, the opinion has always been that it is better to have a system that some consider imperfect rather than no system at all. In fact, there is no evidence to suggest that numismatic EMR's have ever acted out of self interest, though there are suggestions that among the baseball card EMR's there were problems.
Well, now there is nothing.
Your reports are likely to end up in a big black hole. There is no CCW, there are no EMR's and if you want to see what the future holds for the coin sites, look no further than the "antiques", where virtually everything is Chinese and the paint is still drying.
Some of the folks here used to bid outrageous sums for obvious counterfeits to protect others but now you have an uphill struggle to protect yourself.
So, why has this been done? It's because eBay has realised that many counterfeits receive bids, are sold and the buyers fail to realise that they are actually victims. Yes folks, the truth is simple, eBay has abandoned its few scruples in the interest of making money and colluding with fraud and this comes from the top, from Donahoe and his croneys.
The US eBay team has been functioning for years and Judith, who has been referred to in various threads on CU, the head of that team, has 7 years' experience, now thrown away by a greedy and dishonest employer.
The message for buyers is clearly, stick to what you know, for sellers it's do what you like, we won't stop you.
This super new strategy also applies to stamps but it goes further than that, it applies to EVERYTHING. Yes, high end goods of all types, because all the EMR's have been dumped.
When it comes to coins, I am buying what I understand and trust and am taking advice from the experts that I know, when I choose to branch out. For everything else, I buy from eBay if I can't find it elsewhere - and Amazon doesn't have it.
Oh, I forgot, I put "Trust & Safety" in the header, well that's simple, these are just empty words to give comfort to the naive and foolish.

That reporting is next to useless. There is no way to give eBay any comments about why you are reporting the coin, and frequently the available canned reasons don't fit.
If I report something using that link I invariably wind up picking "other coin and currency concerns." I'm sure eBay hasn't a clue why I might report something.

Report Category: Copyright Trademark
Reason for Report: Counterfeit item or authenticity issue
Detailed Reason: The item in the listing appears to be a counterfeit, fake, or replica.
When you click "Continue" a box will appear in which you can give a detailed reason. Be brief, though, as I think it only allows about 80 characters or so...

That does work - thanks for pointing it out. eBay sure buried it in an unlikely place. Why would anyone think to start from "Copyright Trademark" to report a coin issue - coins are neither copyrighted nor trademarked?

It doesn't help if its a hijacked account though. The money will be gone

They still cover the loss as long as buyer protection is in place for the purchase. Also doesn't hurt to always make your paypal payment thru your credit card - backup buyer protection. About the only way to lose money on ebay when you are legitimately not at fault and followed all the rules is when a buyer does a credit card chargeback and ebay is unable to win the battle for the seller with the CC company. This is the weak link in seller protection.
