When will BBCE revamp thier website ??

I wish I lived close enough to drive to thier store, but I don't, so I spend a lot of time on the BBCE website. I really think the website is in need of a serious redesign. For example, the website does not display well at all on my android phone. Whats up with that? Its 2014. Another thing that I find annoying is all of the links on the main page that go nowhere. I'd like to see a website that is comparable to Topps or Dave and Adams's website for example. I am curious if others here feel the same about BBCE's website.

I am prepared to get flamed, so flame away.....

While the design could use updating/modernization, I think it functions very well. Much better than D&A's imo... love being able to quickly get to the sport/decade I want to browse. Also like the count next to each decade... I'm on there enough to quickly see when there's new items.

Being an IT professional, I know how hard it is to find a good website package with easy content management... especially a storefront package.

I find it easier to use BBCE's website, although I am one of the few people who dont even OWN a cell phone and find the constant need to be toying on it annoying...but I digress, the BBCE's website while simpler is easier to find stuff. I have tried to use D&A's website and find it to be cluttered with a bunch of carp that I have no intention of buying at any price, yet its always right there.

Looks like the BBCE website is based on the same "simple auction"
platform that most of the major dealers and AHs use.

Makes a lit if sense (IMO) to use an outsourced platform and focus
on your core competencies. Would love to see the platform enhanced
so that all on it could benefit.

Its 2014 people. BBCE's website should at least be viewable from a smartphone. And I disagree, the search functionality of the BBCE website can be greatly enhanced.

agreed. it needs to be revamped all the way around and modernized for today's technologies.

    if it aint broke.

Steve has been very generous with us.

Perhaps he could revamp the site and raise prices to cover the "new" site? Then you guys would complain about that as well i suppose.

maybe he's too busy buying, selling, responding, trouble-shooting, negotiating & closing to pay so much attention to something which after improvement would still yield the same basic chaotic environment he currently enjoys managing.

my only hope is that he occasionally takes time out to eat and use the restroom.
  • I am sure they plan to down the line. Keep in mind they just opened a new brick and mortar store($). Its functional for what I need it for and I believe they did change the order function to prevent ordering items that aren't in stock. I do like that you can click thru by decade. Although it can improve, so can some of the other sites in some way. Since we are discussing website improvements, has anyone been the Fritsch site?

    I agree with this statement.
  • I like BBCE's 'quieter' design. D&A's site is too loud for my taste. That said, I think D&A is more descriptive in what they have to sell.

It is what it is. Could they improve it? Yeah probably. Make me stop shopping there? Never.

To Steve's credit, he's taken steps to address some of the issues the website had in the past. I actually prefer BBCE's design and functionality to D&A's. Real time inventory would be nice but at least he's gotten the red SOLD up there when an item sells out. There was nothing more frustrating than finding the one thing you wanted, adding it to the cart, then picking out some other stuff because "if they're sending me a box, I might as well get some other stuff too," only to open the box when it got there and find that he had already sold out of the one thing you really wanted. That doesn't happen anymore and for that, I salute them.

We are open to suggestions on who to use to for a new IT company. There are lots of things I would like to change about our website also.
I will be the first to admit that I am not the best with this IT stuff. We do need a company that is available 24/7 to address concerns
and updates and such. Please email be directly at bbcexchange@sprintmail.com with any suggestions.

Also, our inventory has been in real time for a few months now. If you attempt to make and order and the item has just sold out (or the quantity you enter is not all available) it will ask you to re-enter a quantity as the amount you selected is not available.

    Thanks, Steve

By far, you're obviously not in the IT field. The website is the actual design and functionality, not content or product descriptions. Either way, BBCE wins. Content-wise, they may be lacking in product description... but have far superior product and selection. Design/functionality-wise, much easier to browse the entire inventory as several have stated (especially on mobile).

BBCE uses a very popular website package (SimpleAuctionSite) but the customization isn't as esthetically pleasing as it could be... but that would be more for a graphic designer to fix.
  • WhiteTornadoWhiteTornado Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭
BBCE's site is a bit different, but to me, that doesn't make it a bad or inferior site. Their pictures are fine, could be better, but they do the job for me. You can zoom in on the pics as well, if desired.

Honestly, I can slice and dice BBCE's content just fine. As far as being able to view on a smartphone, I can do so on my iPhone. It's not the easiest thing, but I can zoom in and usually make out whatever information I'm seeking.

There are many different ways to build a successful site. Sometimes it simply comes down to individual preference of the user/customer.

It's 2014. Get a smartphone that doesn't tell you what sites you can use. I've been using the bbce site on my phone since I got a galaxy s2 in 2011, and currently on my s4.

I don't think you need a new IT company to make updates. Like a previous poster said many of the links on the home page don't link to the product (item out of stock I'm sure). Your ebay profile link says your ebay feedback is around 34000 when it's actually over 50000. This just takes a few minutes to update.

That's actually one of the things I like about the site. Some stuff sells out so fast that most don't even get a chance to see it or see what it was selling for. The main page is sort of a highlights page and I like that I can see what they had and for what it sold for even if it's no longer in stock.

I've seen a lot of redesigns result in just a lot of wasteful dollars spent too.

Why not call or email Steve to voice your concerns about his site instead of posting here?
