1951 Parkhurst Hockey - Red Writing?

Hi all,

Wanted a quick "authenticity check" from the group.

I purchased this:

Card

Then became a little worried because it doesn't have the normal red writing "No. 63 in the "PARKIE" 1951-52 Hockey Series" at the bottom.

2 questions:

a) Is that an automatic problem or were any printed without it? Looking at the picture (which is quite bad), could it just be faded?

b) What is your overall assessment of the authenticity of the card?

Thanks,
Casey

No idea but he sure dropped the price by a lot for you.
  • Card is a reprint /fake. The entire red line has been faded out but you can see a smidge of the word hockey under 1931.
"Reprint" was stamped right underneath "series" on the lower right bottom which is conveniently faded/gone

Tip off, for sure, in retrospect. But, my offer was low-mid market price. His original price was crazy high, so I wasn't immediately surprised.

Interested in a few more opinions before I try to cancel the transaction... Thanks.

It is 100% fake. That gap at the bottom of the card, you know, that huge space that you can drive a mack truck thru??? Well, that should be your #1 tip off that the card is worthless.

True Parkies won't have that kind of gap, and if they have SOME kind of gap at the bottom, you best believe your border at the top would be non-existent. I will include a couple of pics to show you what I am talking about later!

    Real Parkies....

Like someone earlier stated, notice how the one you bought doesn't have the red line stating what card number you have in the series? You GOT to have that! Hopefully you can get your money back!
  • Update: seller refunded. Thank you all for the advice.

What did the seller say when you asked for a refund?
  • First, he said "there is no writing - it is beautiful, you'll love it", as if I had asked about a mark on the card.

Then, when he realized I was questioning its authenticity, he said that he has been selling for 25 years and "it is authentic". I asked again for a refund/cancellation, directly, and it was processed within 5 minutes.

So, not exactly sure what to make of it. I guess I give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to things like this. But, I wouldn't want to own it, even for only $60. image

I'm sure you'll see it relisted soon enough.

A reprint card is really worth nothing except as a novelty. I would value it around $3. So basically, you offered $57 too much.
