Feeling demoralized after recent PWCC auction (nothing against PWCC)

Went after a couple nice 56 topps last night. Focus on centering. Really dug in on one - convinced now I would have needed to double up avg VCP to have a real shot at a minimum.

PWCC + high end for grade + centered for grade = BIG MONEY

Congrats to buyers, consigners and pWCC.

I've noticed it too. I rarely win anything from PWCC or Probstein, unless it's something that pops up so rarely I'm willing to go nuclear. They've definitely got the views and loyal customers who are willing to pay above-well above market, especially on nice examples.

I think the PWCC auctions are becoming a competitive fix for the super rich buyers who love to put the smack down at auctions, and who normally duke it out at the catalog auction events like Goodwin, REA, Heritage, Legendary, etc. Those events are not everyday, and the PWCC events are providing something similar to that feel for those buyers, in between the main events, so to speak.

If it was the Mantle you might be happy you didn't win.

Top corners and chipping (even with the centering) made this a close 8.

I look forward to their auctions. Good stuff!

Tough to find centered in any grade
Plus like the Yankees in 8
Otherwise I'm of the centered mid grade is fine for me school of thought.

Yeah it was brutal for me too. I bid pretty strong on about 12 and only came away with 2. Very nice cards. Couldn't believe the Mantle's closing price of almost $6100!!

  • I bid strong on one dead-centered, beautiful high number. I got the silver.

It does cause a person to be concerned that the person you may be bidding against may have a different motive than purchasing the card to add it to their collection.

I set snipes for the 22 best centered, best bump potential 1956's last night. Usually at around 125% of recent sale prices.

    I went 0 for 22.

It sounds like a few of you guys may have been outbidding each other for the same well-centered cards.

I can't afford cards that high-end, so I go for these type of cards (for a 1/10th of the price):
