eBay return question

So I am returning an item on eBay. I contacted the seller and they have agreed to refund the purchase if I just send the card back. My question is, can I just send the card back with delivery confirmation and be protected? Or do I have to open a case formally through eBay's resolution center in order to be protected?

You don't have to open a case unless the seller gives you a hard time. If he is accepting a refund, just return it with tracking. You can always use the tracking # later, if necessary, but most sellers will honor their return policy (or should honor it, at least).

Thanks Tim. I am pretty sure I will have no problems. I have bought more cards than I want to think about from the seller over the past two years so I don't think I have much to worry about. Just wanted to know what eBay's policy was. Thanks for the clarification.

How do you exactly know the address to return it to? Besides asking the seller who sent you the totally bogus item.

Not always, but depending on user settings, sometimes when you return an item, after selecting return from the pull-down menu, a shipping label is automatically generated on ebay for you to use.

I would open a case if you want to be protected. If he refunds with no problems, it doesn't count against him.

I had a seller agree to accept a return on about $100 worth of raw 1970 cards once. (Just for the record the cards were so far off from as described I couldn't justify keeping them).
After he agreed to the return he filled a non-payment claim against me.
I never asked why he filed a claim because it didn't have any affect on the transaction on my side. I just assumed he did it to get his fees returned.
I could be mistaken but I believe Ebay allows the parties to work out the arrangement for returns without filing a claim and you are still protected.

That seller should have chosen the option to simply cancel the transaction due to mutual agreement.

I guess I'm old school but unless a seller gives me a reason to be concerned, I take him at his word and refrain from having paypal freeze his account.
