How Good Is Koji Uehara?

So I was checking out his stats, and I noticed how ridiculous they are. He has 41 walks in 302 career innings, and 357 k's. His career whip is .839, and last year it was .565 which is crazy.

His stats from last year were just insane across the board. 74.1 innings, 33 hits, 9 walks, 101 k's, 1.09 ERA, .565 WHIP, 21 saves.

Has he been the best relief pitcher the past 5 years? I think so. He is definitely the most accurate pitcher in the MLB right now, he walks no one. He is close to Maddux in my opinion in that category. He has only had double digit walks 1 year in his career, and it was when he was starting.

He was good until the Rangers needed him in the 2011 playoffs and then he was flat out AWFUL. Nice guy off the field whike he was here and was always nice to my daughter so I like Koji. Would welcome him back as a Ranger.

Crazy thing is that he doesn't really have Closer stuff. He throws 89-92 but he has a deceptively quick release in his motion, that makes the ball get up on hitters much quicker than the radar gun shows. It's nice to see that when you are coaching kids. You watch a game with Strasburg/Fernandez/Scherzer or these other flame throwers, and it's tough to tell a kid "Well just throw like him". But considering Uehara strength is much more location, it's great to see him be so successful.
I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

The dude is a vastly underrated stud. Everybody wants to talk about Kimbrel, Chapman and Holland because they get more K's, but Uehara was the best of the bunch last year.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • At one point last year he retired 27 batters in a row - a relief perfect game. It was unreal how good he was.
