I noticed this error at eBay and thought it was "Forum Worthy" for some linkage.

I like Nickels so errors such as this one really grab my attention. There's not much I can add to the pictures, it's sort of dramatic: date centered nicely on the obverse, reverse shows the top/bottom design inverted, it's in a PCGS capsule to quench the thirst of us Kool-Aid-ites and perhaps best of all, it has an absolutely heart-warming Pedigree which includes the ANACS certificate and a hand written note:
......................Offered for your consideration is this breathtaking and dramatic double struck Buffalo nickel. It
was originally pulled from circulation by a fortunate and thoughtful soul who kept it safely for his son, who sent it to
ANACS in 1973. It was then put away for another 40 years until it was offered to us by the Granddaughter. Here it
sits in a PCGS Secure Holder.......................

I have been known to stretch for a coin I like but this one is past what a working stiff like me can afford, so I hope it ends up with a forum member. I wonder how the CrazyHoundDog would like it?? I wonder if it's Realone compliant for traceability back a few years?? Who's the member that has been putting together the ANACS certificate Type Set, would it fit in for him?? I guess what I'm saying is that this particular coin seems to be one for the ages that could be content residing in any collection, or am I overstating things??

I also wanted to add that the dual dates ---7/16/73 and 9/19/73--- on the ANACS certificate are close to my life. I had just turned 18 on 7/7/73 and in September headed off to Ohio University. Life was pulling me away from coins for about 25 years. I missed a lot.

price is a good question. another good question might be the choice of venue, why not Heritage? I will admit my ignorance regarding price and just say that it seems pretty cool to me and I suppose this type of error in this grade on a Buffalo Nickel must be low in numbers. I suppose all the error guys need their rest and will clear these questions up for us in the early morning hours tomorrow, at least I hope they do.

as an inanimate object it is impossible for "it" to feel a human emotion, but I do believe it is possible for it to evoke that emotion in those who view it. it did that with me and I bet that is why the dealer chose that ID. what really makes me smile are the flowlines at the rim of the overstrike, especially the way the designers initial is stretched. also, just under the chin looks cool.



above is a smile and the closest I could get to "Happy" with the allowed icons.

My favorite feature of this coin is the dramatic die rotation...... I can see how this could happen if the coin failed to eject from the striking platform completely, and somehow slipped back into the collar as the feeder tube went dry, thus averting a die clash...... probably the coolest coin I have ever seen.

I'm not an error guy, but I think the seller is pricing that coin unrealistically. As in, the decimal point is two places off.

Two places off as in $3,499,500? Or were you thinking a fair price is $349.95?

As far as value for the error, it's a tough call as it is a visually dramatic error that is quite rare and it's on a coin from a highly collected series. If I had to value it without doing any research, I would estimate a retail price of just shy of $20,000 ... and that is just a guess.

When it comes to pricing Errors, it is always a guess. That is why he is starting out where he is, he is trolling. Waiting for someone to want it so bad they make an offer.

That's fabulous. A wonderful piece. Not the coolest error I've ever seen but it's up there.

I have no idea of its value but I think the asking price is probably way too high.
