Not sure how many here will actually end up seeing Godzilla and even less sure of those how many will find it interesting that a scene from the movie Pearl Harbor was replicated in the movie Godzilla, but here is a reveal that might add a little to the experience if one has interest in seeing the Godzilla movie that just came out.
In movie parlance such a replicated scene offered as an insider tribute to a former film is termed an "Easter Egg" as those into movie trivia have to search them out just like one looks for eggs on Easter morning. On further thought, actually a lot like those of us do in this hobby searching for that elusive "Cherry Pick."
For a project that I have been working on I took some 3D video of a location in one of the lower levels of the retired battleship USS Missouri moored in Pearl Harbor where a scene from the movie of same name had been filmed. The scene itself in the same location was all but replicated in the newly released Godzilla. (In Pearl Harbor the USS Missouri was used as a stand in for the USS Arizona and in Godzilla it was the stand in for the USS Saratoga as it chased Godzilla across the Pacific.)
At the time I captured the location in 3D I thought this had to be the first time it had been filmed in 3D. I found it ironic that Godzilla came out with a 3D version. However, it turns out that the 3D version of Godzilla was made 3D in post production through a conversion process. So that likely leaves my humble project as not only the first, but still only time the specific location has been filmed in 3D.
There is limited access to the location itself which is otherwise closed to the general public apart from a special tour and of note until the filming of Pearl Harbor it was completely off limits due to Asbestos hazard. The producers of Pearl Harbor contributed approximately two million dollars to remove the asbestos just so they could film in the location. The location is identified as "Broadway" a name given to it as being the only corridor within the ship that stretches from one end of the ship to the other. It was used to transport munitions and supplies which were hung and swung from a beam in the ceiling that looks like a railroad rail.
One added point of trivia is that in going back and getting a screen shot of the scene as it was filmed in the subject location in the movie Pearl Harbor I discovered a movie blooper that had not previously been identified on the various movie blooper websites. If you look to the left side of my screen shot photo you will see an arm of a filming assistant holding a small device used for lighting or sound.
THE PHOTOS:
The 1st photo below is one I took of the subject location when I was there doing my project.
The 2nd photo is a screen shot from the movie Pearl Harbor in the same location and it includes the above referenced "blooper" seen as an arm and hand holding a piece of movie equipment on the left side of the frame.
The 3rd photo is the screen shot from the just released movie Godzilla that replicates the original scene from the movie Pearl Harbor there in the same location aboard the USS Missouri.
OK, and to keep this thread coin related, here is a picture of "The Monster" and of My Monster coin. Feel free to post your own Monsters.
