Finally finished another drawing (George T. Morgan)...this one is different.

coppercoinscoppercoins Posts: 6,084 ✭✭✭
Some of you might have familiarity with the coin designer drawing series I started back in 2006. This one is the 8th drawing in that series, of George T. Morgan.

The unusual and unique part of this particular drawing is that I had no straight-on, good quality images of Morgan to use for this drawing, nor are there any images in existence of him at the age I have him depicted here (around 50 years old, 1895). Most of the details of this image come from studying the few photos that do exist of him, and inferring much of the specific detail. And yes, he did have a somewhat oddly shaped head.

Enjoy your first good look at George T. Morgan...

(See the BST board if interested in a print.)

It has been some time since I posted here. I used to have a modest following of people waiting on the "next" drawing to come out, and ran into health and other issues and had to have a large delay in the process. Well, now I have #8 out, and plan to do #9 in about a month.

Yet again, a great job! Did you think of adding some of his patterns or commemorative designs in the background?

Let's see... Columbian Expo reverse, PanPac 50c and $2 1/2 reverse, Illinois obverse. Some of the 1877 50c patterns, etc..

    Hi Rick,

I decided for the sake of doing something that everyone could recognize, I would just put the Morgan Dollar in the design. I thought about a number of the patterns, but felt that the Morgan Dollar is what really gave him the "name" in coins (literally speaking), so I stuck with it for the displayed piece of his work in the portrait.

My next will probably be Anthony DeFrancisci (Peace Dollar), and then Charles Barber. After Barber I will retire the series and move on to something else.

    Dear Sir,

I just ordered one of your new prints, and want to address a slight issue with ordering.
    1) The payment went through with ease using pay pal, that's great and you have the information necessary to mail the order, but
    2) There is no way to order more than ONE as there are no parameters allowing any quantity to be batched.
    3) An error code on the "return" to website does not redirect.

Not a critical problem but did try to order 2.
On the flip side, Kudos. It looks good and the price is very reasonable for a limited printing ! (in my humble opinion)

Probably not going to do Gobrecht because decent images of his likeness are difficult to find. I will likely do DeFrancisci and Charles Barber and call the series done with an even ten subjects.

I can remember a time when I had posted one of these drawings here and someone mistook them to be some Photoshop job of taking images and creating a collage from them. I just wanted to be very clear for those who may not realize (I know most do) that these are pencil drawings done on paper by hand...NOT image manipulation.

For clarity sake, the following are two images of a drawing I did of my parrot; one in-progress and one of the completed drawing...

And thank you for all the nice comments regarding the current work. I am very excited to be working on my next work, Anthony de Francisci (Peace Dollar). So far it looks really good.
