PCGS Price Guide Question

Just curious about your thoughts on a couple coin prices in the Price Guide.

I have a 1982-P PCGS MS66+FS. This is a Pop 2 with none finer and is priced at $1,000. This price is nothing to sneeze at, but it's a Pop 2 coin and is one of the 1982 and 1983 date that remain the toughest in the modern dates. I appreciate the offers I have received for the coin, but all have centered around this Price Guide value. Let's compare to one of the coins offered in trade, a 1976 PCGS MS66FS. This is another tough coin (and one I need for my set), but has is a Pop 10 with 2 and is priced at $1,000. I just need someone to help explain the rational PCGS has in determining values especially when there are no auctions or other reported sales? I'm a logical guy and need a little help on this one.

Therein lies the rub. It's tough to set a price when a market hasn't been established. I could be wrong, but it seems in cases like this PCGS errs on the side of being conservatively.

I have talked to Jamie who WAS doing the price guide and he explained to me that for the guide to consider a TRUE auction it has to have more than 2 bidders.

Now I had a 1952 s/s quarter price guide went from 650 to 225 and I asked WHY? NO recent sales, NO new pops and yet they drop the price. OK so the 1943 s Goiter Quarter Sells at Heritage 2 MONTHS ago for 4000 and I sent him the link, there were five active bidders and yet the guide STILL shows 250.

I just found the fifth known example of the 1945 s DDO 102 paid 90 dollars to get it graded and true view and the guide shows it at 55 bucks. Now I am at the point of sending all my coins to Heritage and showing the folks there guide is WAY off. I tried to explain to Jamie that to find the true value one has to sell the coin, as a collector its hard for me to do this just to prove the guide is wrong. Good luck figureing out How and Why.......
