NEWP: 1694-KB Hungary, Kremnitz Mint, Hogmouth Taler

Apologies for my images - this is a very large flan issue from the Hungarian Kremnitz mint depicting Leopold I, The "Hogmouth". Will try to take better shots. Marks on top of obverse are adjustment marks, common for this issue.

    Yes, nice indeed.

I take it that's an oversized NGC holder. I've never seen one, so I'm not used to seeing a big taler swallowed up by a slab like that, with plenty of daylight around the edges!

That would wreak havoc upon my slab boxes.

Then again, if I had such a coin in such a slab, I might just put it on a little easel. image

If I could only find a way to like the supersize holder... this is the new holder by NGC slightly slimmer than prior monster size. Oh well.

You keep on complaining how tough MS64+ talers are, and every week you keep posting such beauties! image

As for the NGC slab, I always thought that it was the ugliest slab in the business, even the old fatties. The only one I liked, was their multiholder, that was able to contain up to 5 coins, in a case of a small proof set for instance, or in case the set was larger, two multiholders were being used. This specially made for talers and large medals I assume, reminds me of the multiholder in the way they display the coin, with a bigger circle around it, semi transparent, exactly like the coins wee presented at the multiholder and thankfully, without those thongs of death.
On the other hand I understand that it must look ridiculous and out of proportion, the taler looks like a shilling inside it......

    But nice hogmouth! image

Your dupes are not as bad as you think, you should consider consigning them, either at NEN or at Heritage, but by avoiding a big auction where such items realize low prices and are the perfect victims for bargain hunters. I would have started with NEN, Chris is a very reasonable guy and their percentage is less than ebay's fees along with paypal, let alone that some NEN clients don't bother or refuse to browse ebay all together.

Dimitri - Chris is indeed great and their website and presentation is second to none. Let me reach out to him. Great idea.

This purchase, by the way, was made RAW directly from Hungary. Took a risk along with seller who saw the appeal. Paid him extra for the grade. This is a slightly slimmer holder. My personal preference was the old rectangle type holder. This is a 46mm coin which is tough to fit in standard.

Dimitri - another thought I had is trade towards ancient Greek... do you know any dealers that offer both world and ancients that would consider? I am letting these go at cost from years back yet trades may be easier given variance in cost basis and margins. Thoughts?

Nice coin Z, by the way NEN also sells ancients.

Those holders are kind of ridiculous. I don't own any coins in them but I've looked at a few at shows and they crack me up.

Excellent coin, Z. I'm surprised you found this raw in Hungary. Are there still some real quality pieces in that part of the world raw? I am so leery of counterfeits in my low cost items I can't imagine how you don't just break into a sweat until you are able to certify its authenticity yourself in hand.

The seller is a young "start up" dealer I met on ebay... he bought it out of an estate sale and from my back and forth with him it was clear he knows the theme, especially Hungary. I am sure many of these are situated in vaults across the continent.
