I'll be honest here. I think marijuana needs to be legalized. It is not a performance enhancing drug and it is obviously not anywhere near as bad health wise as alcohol. If sports players are aloud to drink then they should be able to smoke pot. Just my opinion. I know I might be opening a can of worms here, but to me it is beyond obvious.

My take, during the season no professional athlete should be doing any drugs or drinking alcohol etc. During the offseason who cares what they do.

But this was really stupid on his end. He had a better season than Calvin Johnson (because of -2 games) and was in line for a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge contract.
  • I agree, just legalize marijuana, what a joke! It just really amazes me why people with talent throw it all away! This Gordon will end up broke as a joke, penny less and on Obama care. I wish I had 10% of his ability! What a shame. Guess I should have used that money I spent on his cards more wisely, oh well, it is what it is.

Tough on a Browns fan seeing as though they passed on Sammy Watkins. Trading the #4 pick was a real bad idea considering Gordon' s past. 100% true idiocy. New regime in Cleveland same results....wait till next year. Gordon, another example of huge talent and tiny cerebral capacity. Ughhh

  • If I was in Manziels position I would demand an immediate trade from these losers!! How the hell does this just come out today and this happened a few months back? WTF?
  • I hear the Browns have their eye on a receiver nicknamed "Goatse". That's good, right?

It's completely ridiculous that players are suspended for smoking weed, ESPECIALLY for an entire season. Clearly marijuana isn't negatively affecting his play, so who cares if he smokes, especially in the freaking off-season.
  • Anyone have an idea when this BS will be confirmed by the NFL? When will any action be taken against Gordon? Appeal?
  • bigdcardsbigdcards Posts: 1,188 ✭✭✭
I'm against Marijuana for the players on my favorite teams, but encourage it for the opponents. They should eat turkey for breakfast too.

You'd think after already failing his SECOND drug test and being suspended for two games last year, he'd have smartened up at least. Manziel gets to see real quick what it means to be a Brown, LOL..

Reports say that the Browns have known about the drug test for two weeks. Watkins should have been a no brainer, if that is true.

    This x1,000,000 or 420....

And lets also make sure you can't dunk a football over the crossbar after a TD - lets not have fun out there. That being said he knew if he failed a test for whatever banned substance this would be the punishment. If that kind of money was on the line I think I'd stay away from the wacky tabaccy...

The NFL has rules. Whether you agree or disagree with them, if you want to get paid to play in that league, then you must follow those rules.

He did this same thing at Baylor, got him kicked off the team. It was just a matter of time. So disappointing, he's so talented but he needs a supervisor 100% of the time.

But that's OK, I'm not a big Johnny fan anyway so the less help the better.
  • I should have just spent the money spent on his cards to have purchased marijuana! Hell its legal in Colorado! Give us a break NFL!! You can beat your dog, hit your momma with a frying pan, hit someone with a vehicle while in a dui state of mind and have nothing happen to you! The NFL is back wards! Legalize marijuana NOWWWWWW !!!!!!!

I'm sure it will eventually be legalized elsewhere because a dumbed down populace is a more easily manipulated and controlled populace. I've never met a stoner yet that didn't show some degree of cognitive impairment. If you love pot so much move to Colorado and burn brain cells with the other idiots.

So true, so true... but at 37 with 3 little ones at home, my puffs are few and far between. Maybe I'll pick it back up in retirement! But I was always amazed at some of the people that I discovered who smoke the cheeba.

NFL rethinking policy on marijuana usage

Looks like the NFL is quickly coming around with us and the growing "Pot is no big deal" crowd.

although the rule was too harsh, the 'let's change the rules when a rising star gets busted for them' tack here is a bit moronic imho. at least wait a few months first.
  • GRGR Posts: 550 ✭✭
Even Josh Gordon knows not to invest a grand into cards of a one time pro bowler with a drug suspension, lol and yet Calvin Johnsons cards remain relatively cheap, I must admit you modern collectors do have some big stones!

A couple Olympics ago, I remember some athlete becoming ineligible for a drug test from pot and the follow-up quote was something to the effect of it would only be a performance-enhancing drug if he were playing bass.

It doesn't sound like it's reactionary to Gordon at all:

"the renegotiation of the drug policy, which has been going on since 2011 and includes testing for human growth hormone, also will significantly increase the threshold for a positive marijuana test and reduce the punishments for violations involving that drug."

"There are widespread changes to the NFL's drug policy that these two sides have negotiated and are waiting to implement once they can reach agreement on the administration of discipline."
  • lawnmowermanlawnmowerman Posts: 19,477 ✭✭✭✭
The Browns agreed to terms with former Cowboys wr Miles Austin. Obviously to help absorb some of the blow from Josh Gordon's impending suspension.

Austin is great when healthy but most likely will pull a hamstring and spend more time on the sideline than on the field. He's been plagued with hamstring issues for years.
  • Moving to Colorado soon, first day I get there I'm going out to buy my LEGAL marijuana and will smoke it while watching all the major sports!!!!
